Little primer on lens. Bookmark for future Focal range dictate the lens type. Wide : Under 24mm Normal: 24mm - 70mm Tele: Over 70mm Prime lenses have fixed focal length. Zoom lenses have variable focal lengths. For example: 12mm is wide prime 35mm - 70mm is standard zoom 120mm is tele prime You can not zoom in/out with prime lens. So, you have to physically move closer/away from the subject. But, they are sharp/lighter/easier to produce, hence cheaper. With Zoom lens you can cover a range of focal lengths, but the optics involved are complex. They are heavy and expensive. Typically you want to have a collection of lenses ranging from wide/standard/tele. They can be either prime or zoom. Now, the other big aspect of lens is aperture. Aperture is the amount (maximum or range) the shutter opening allowed by the lens. Bigger the aperture, more light goes into the sensor, better the picture. If you see a lens spec, they typically look like: F/3.5-5.6 35-70mm It is a standard zoom lens with max. aperture of 1/3.5 (at lowest focal length). F/1.4 50mm It is a prime lens with fixed aperture of 1/1.4 Higher the aperture, expensive the lens. I started off with kits lens on N80, 10 years ago and used it on D70 later. Added a tele zoom (70-200mm) and wide (20mm). But, they were cheaper having low apertures. Later started adding some high aperture lenses like f/1.4 50mm prime, f/2.8 105mm (macro) and now the f/2.8 14-24mm. You need to plan about what you want and start gathering over the years. For me, lenses play bigger role than camera body. | ||

Leica is Range Finder camera as opposed to SLR. Oka zamana lo Nikon/Canon kooda range finder cameras produce chesaru. Eventually they moved to SLR technology while Leica is stuck with Range Finders.
