This place never sleeps, life begins here as early as four in the morning and you will still see people engaging in some activity or the other till two am. Krishna Nagar is touted to be the first settlement of a lot of film people when the industry first shifted from Chennai to Hyderabad. One can find everyone from the Twenty Four Crafts in this motley colony which is now rapidly developing into a home for soft ware engineers and higher income group families. The slums are slowly giving away to reasonably comfortable apartments mostly owned by the workers in the industry. All the current popular directors at one time spent sleepless nights waiting for opportunity to strike at their doors. Even today groups gather to gossip, discuss the day’s activity in the shooting spots. Sneak into this group, and you’d know who’s doing which film, who’s hacked the script of the latest release, which actor is seeing a heroine on the sly and also the history of star’s and directors who ran away from their homes to fulfill their dreams. The discussions come alive on the day a film releases. All this happens at one destination in Krishna Nagar. A little further away is Ganapati Complex…an old residential apartment that has a tiffin centre, a tea stall, hair salon and a dance institute run by choreographer Swarna. Sri Vinayak Centre is a tiffin joint which functions from 6am to 10pm throughout the week. VV Vinayak, Paruchuri Murali, Samudra, many tv artistes and assistant directors were frequent visitors in their salad days. There is also Sri Manga Tiffin Centre and Sri RR Tiffin Centre which has many costume makers and people from the Dancers Union as the visitors. A nearby locality Pondi Bazar in Indira Nagar is also a land mark, a picking spot for junior artistes if they have to travel from home to the studios.What makes the ‘A’ and ‘B’ block of Krishna Nagar a viable place for living is the affordable rents. While one thinks twice to lease out their place for filmi people in adjacent areas, there are no second thoughts when it comes to bachelors in Krishna Nagar. Ramulu, a Union Member disagrees, “the rents have gone up, it is on par with what one pays in prime localities and the influx of software people have added to the demand.” Tammareddy Baradwaj, director and producer says that the plots once given to the industry workers have been sold to outsiders and now one finds all white collared professionals here. There might be hazaar reasons why aspiring artistes and technicians choose this place for settling but the pre-dominant factor is sentiment….any person who begins his career here is bound to go places some day, he will never be disappointed with life!… I witnessed it and part of it for 5 years ! i will share later |
