Nowhere did he mention about Sahasra's character nor did he mention that it's just a slice of life, point of view kind of film. When you reverse engineer the story as to figure out what the intention of the creator could be, we might wrongly conclude that it's just a film about a series of seemingly disconnected events in Sahasra's life. Any wrong inferences are direct result of improper padding to the story. When I finished watching the movie, not for a moment, did I think it's the Sahasra's story, the director is trying to narrate. I thought it's about mad cult, which is padded to give a lift for 2 and half hour story. Then came the postmartem which I happen to read.... Half way through the film, before the revealation of mad cult link, I thought may be he was attempting at a mystery genre, but never thought it's a slice of life kind of film. nuvvu nenu chebite vinavu gaanee...let me present you what Yeleti said about formation of story of AOR, verbatim in his own words. The formation of story: A movie or a book doesn't inspire me. Real life incidents do inspire me. There are certain people who drink beyond their capabilities and start doing nonsensical things, which they do not remember when they get up the next day. If alcohol could have such an impact, what would be the effect of drugs? You would not remember the next day what happened when you were drugged. This formed the basic story idea. This film is about the things a girl did after she was drugged. I wanted to give the color of drug mafia to the entire film till I saw a few Swamijis. There are two types of Swamijis. One kind of Swamijis cheats people for money. There are some other kind of mad Swamijis who do believe that the mad things they do are miracles. I observed a Swamiji from a major city in AP who offers water from drainage to the devotees and make them drink. Another Swamiji from an AP village has far dangerous way of functioning. He would be roaming nude and there are numerous worshippers to him who are willing to do whatever he orders. All he does is nonsense and all those followers blindly believe him. I saw him doing unspeakable things (homo sex) in public, and the devotees and public from neighborhood believe that it is a 'leela' of Swamiji. I saw another episode in TV9 where a cross-dressing Swamiji who do nonsensical things. You might have heard about the mass suicide by 900 cult people in west. I have also read a book called 'World Famous Cults' to know more about them. All these incidents inspired in writing the cult people climax in the film. I find drugs and cult culture similar. Gunnam lost money on AOR. Coming to Okkadunnadu being in commercial format, if you think having fights and songs with skin show is what commercial film is, even then it's still OK, because if you look at Okkadunnaadu, the theme is not diluted. The way he narrates the first 30 minutes in Okkadunnaadu, OMG, amazing. Asalu Bombay blood group concept petti, Mahesh majrekar ki ad kaavaali ani cheppi, Calcutta lo oka aids patient ni pattakochchi dramatise chesi, hero ni introduce chesi....idantaa oka ettu ayite, sona bhai ki kaavaalsindi blood kaadu gunde ani turn ichchi....he pits the hero verses the villain and the conflict continues... I am sure any other narrator would have done lot of padding to the narrative. He beleives tnot in elliptical narrative, but in a straight one, there by treating audience as intelligent... Yeleti is a boon to our industry. In fact, it's AOR that lacks a genuine story structure. He wanted to expose one mad cult, but it only forms about 45 minutes of story, rest of all is padding. he attempted comedy in this, for which he doesn't have skills. That's just a consolation award, another not so important category is Nargis Dutt award for the category of best film on National integration, another such is best regional film. Telugu film is yet to win an award in 3 important categories; best film, best director or best actor.
