if its full contains it comes to 4k-5k, but still its worth because most of the folks returning to india have spent like 6-10 years in US and accumulated lot of furniture, electronics, books, collections etc here. and some times you won't get the same quality furniture in India. so cost wise its good if they ship the items.

since its all used items and also under the clause of "home relocation" there won't be any custom charges on these items. probably some nominal amount to bribe those folks.

Antey ship lo separate gaa shipping cheyyinchukunnaara?

correct. all R2I guys shipping cheyinchukuntaru...not just TV, but all their household items like sofa, dining table, etc..usually if the luggage is more they take one full container or they share the container with others. it will take around 40-60 days to reach india.

since its all used items and also under the clause of "home relocation" there won't be any custom charges on these items. probably some nominal amount to bribe those folks.

Dude.. last year nenu teesuku veldam ani try chesa.. but not possible

there is a limit, like 165 inches (includes all dimensions of the casing/box), and the 55 inch I thought of taking crossed that limit with considerable margin...
This is for taking TV along with you ...

I tried calling airlines too...

For shipping like fright, you have to contact a shipping firm or something like that... we cant just pack it and take it to some airline cargo service...

not easy... finally my dad bought that same 46inch or so samsung LED TV for 1 lakh, with a blue ray player...

BAg lo kaadu, 4th bag badulu, idi annatlu naa Q. Of course, oversized ani extra vesthaaru.

Valid points about Voltage, and NTSC/PAL formats, I will do some research on that.

Warranty, world-wide ivvaraa ?? hmmm...Idi choodaali. I know Dell says it won't for laptops bought here. But, Toshiba ikkada konnadi India lo service cheyyinchukunnaaru telisina vallu.

technicalities:
1. all the TVs here support only 110v. so you need to buy a step down transformer which costs around $200+ to make it work with 220v in India.

2. in US its NTSC signal, where as in India its PAL signal. there are only handful of models in US which support both the signals..like sharp aquos. you need to be careful with this otherwise you need to buy a signal converter too.

3. you will be missing the "warranty" if you take the TV to india. if something goes wrong, its very difficult to get it fixed or repaired.

customs:
green channel: depends on your negotiation skills.
red channel: get ready to pay heavy customs duty.

risks: TV might get damaged during transit.

R2I guys shipped the TV but not in air. so its comparatively safe and cheap.

Is it possible to buy a TV(just below $1000) here and take it to India?

Electronics wise, oka motherboard thappa verevi teesukelle plan ledu. They are thinking about taking a TV too. Samsung 46" TV India lo almost 1 lakh chebuthunnaranta. Andukey ikkadi nundi teesukeldaamani planning.

I know some "Return to India" guys did this. But, maa vallu short trip kanuka customs lo pattukuntaaranukuntaa. Pattukuntey entha kattaali? Shipping ki emanna extra kharchu avuthundaa since it is fragile?

4 bags allowed kada!!, 3 bags + TV pattukeldaamani plan.

Any ideas/suggestions?
