DMZ better aa Port forwarding better aa?

Ee case lo difference emi undadhu, as there is only one LAN port on Vonage adapter. DMZ aithe, your router is exposed outside as if there is no vPortal. Port forwarding lo, all traffic is checked by vPortal, which could slow down.

EX495: How are you copying files onto ex? You using media collector?? I will install My Movies app today.. Once I have all my files copied over and set 'em neatly organized, we will try synching our both libs.. Where did you register your domain? HP vaadu TOZ antunnadu.. first year free.. not sure how much would that be after the first year.. suggestions please..

Modhatlo Media Collector configure chesa. Now I disabled it and copy media files manually (EX folders appear as network shares from my desktop pc). This way, I categorize my movies/tv, telugu/hindi, feature films/music videos etc.

nenu homeserver(DOT)com lo register chesna, which is free even after 1 year.

Just in case, if you have Vonage adapter connected before router, you need to put router in DMZ on VPortal to access the server from outside.

Venkateswarlu:

ex495 media collector tho pedda sikkochhindi.. its not copying mkv files .. you got any idea?

nenu mkv files use cheyyanu. Intaki, Avatar movie ni nuvvu rip chesava leka download chesava? My HTPC can play any file I throw at, local or streamed, mkv or any other format.

Venkateswarlu:

And this 'My Movies' app, do you install on ex or on pc?

Both. They have 'My Movies' software for ex (whs) which scans the media and downloads the meta info. Then I installed a 'My Movies' plugin into MCE (Windows 7) on HTPC. Fro MCE, I can view all my movies with covers, actors & other meta information.

Venkateswarlu:

How are you streaming the movies from ex - SMB or HTTP or Twonky?

For PS3 and LG bluray player, I stream via Twonky. It works for HTPC too, but sometimes I just play the over network via SMB/NTFS. Streaming to outside my home, I use HTTP mode.

Simba:

Idhi IMDB nundi information automatic ga pull chestunda or you have to key in manually.

Two methods: [1] Name the movie file as moviename.year of release.typeofrip(brip/dvdrip).fileextension(avi/mkv). This way it will pull automatically from IMDB
[2] put .nfo file in the same folder as the movie file with imdb link to the movie.

I choose [1].

Venkateswarlu:

Simba: Installed YAMJ and built my movie index.. keka undi interface.. instead of just seeing the movie folders, the app is pulling everything related to movie, ie bitrate, encoders and even movie image from imdb website..

YAMJ looks good. Idhi IMDB nundi information automatic ga pull chestunda or you have to key in manually.

I use the My Movies for storing/retrieving meta information. It has a server component that runs on WHS and a plug-in to windows media center.

surround sound with 3 speakers is just virtual, can't get the real effect

Router ki device connect cheshinantha maatraana adi home network lo ledu ani elaa cheptamu? You connect something to router so that you will get a logical address, ie i.p address to that component so that it can talk to other components in the network.

what you said might be true, but in this case my laptop and wii are talking over internet. check the image given in ORB url. (my post 4368 below)

scenario 1:

Device 1 -> router
Device 2 -> router

then communication is over internet. if internet is down then can't communicate any more. if you want, i can give my ORB user id/password you can stream same movies from my laptop to wii anywhere in the world.

scenario 2:

device 1 -> router (create some home network called "xyz")
device 2 -> connect to xyz
device 3 -> connect to xyz
device 4 -> connect to xyz

this is home network. even if internet is down, all these devices can communicate between themselves.

Venkateswarlu:

With iPhone: When at home, you are still using your local network to stream the movie. You are not using at&t 3G network. Try connecting to att network and stream the movie => this process will use internet.

even though i am at home, it still uses internet for streaming. and yes it worked over at&t 3G also.

Jmk: I think you installed a media server [ORB] on your laptop that will manage all your content. On Wii console side, it can see this media server and play the files. I still think this is using your local network and nothing to do over internet.

no wrong.

this is the connectivity:

wii -> my wireless router
laptop -> my wireless router

so it's: laptop -> internet -> wii

there is no home network created.

Also it ORB works with iphone also. they have free application in appstore. instal on iphone and login with same user id, password and access the movies.

deenemma keka saami...super quality on iphone.

iphone is directly playing 1.5 GB AVI files from my laptop over internet. keka undi...travelling, waiting lo manchi time pass cheyyochu...

otherwise, you need to convert AVI to MP4 and sync with itunes to copy to iphone...time and effort ..waste process.....

you can't expect quality because wii is connected with RCA cable to TV

I thought RCA has can give 1080p quality picture, if your tv resolution can support. But since Wii's graphic card isnt that good enough to support hi-res movies, you might not get the best pic quality.

I just streamed videos from my laptop to my LCD tv using Wii.

I installed ORB on my laptop from www.orb.com/wii, create a free login account and Set the movies folder as location.

Login into opera browser on wii with the same login credentials. It will show the folder contents. just click and play the desired movie.

This just works..anthey...you can't expect quality because wii is connected with RCA cable to TV, no hdmi support. also my home is 54mbps G router, not N router, so its very slow.

To do this, I think the media streamer shuld have eSATA port(s) [external SATA].

WDTV is like apple products.. plug n play.. you cant do any upgrades.. not sure if you can install some interesting apps like YAMJ..

WDTV is cheap and best option. Only thing missing is Netflix support.

Other alternative is, Seagate FreeAgent Theater+

Choostaa intiki velli.. only concern is, would this vonage adapter cause any network slowness? I hope this is a simple pass thru port..

Maverick cheppitnattu try cheyyi:

Modem -> Vonage Adapter -> Router WAN Port

Nuvvu, EX495 and PS3 ni router ki direct ga connect chesi and streaming from one to another? That defeats the whole purpose of streaming.

I know, you live in apartment, so could not help. But, the idea is to have media server (EX495) connected to router in one place. PS3 connects to router over wireless and plays network content on TV.

Usual ga reputed sites nunde download chesta. For ex: desitorrents lo before seeding, they usually scan for viruses. if anyone seeds virus-infected file, he is banned for life. Also, desktop lo anti-virus elaagu untundhi. Any file saved is checked for viruses before it is committed on the disk.

But you need to dedicate to tv hwile playing the movie.

Chirufan: You are right. There are some cases where you have two rooms with tv [Living/Basement/Kids rooms etc]. Now if your kid wants to watch an animated movie and at the sametiem you are watching something else and you want to watch in the living room where you have BD player. Now how can you do this?

If you have media servers, they can be set to stream to any TV/Computer in the house. Infact you can watch same movie in different rooms at the same time, if you feel the rest of the audience are noisy or too many comment passers..

Oh, and these media devices don't have a Blu-ray disc drive right?

You dont need. This is the beauty why you buy these devices. You basically rip that BDisk onto your network HDD and stream it from there. Ripping BDisk is not that straight forward if you want to maintain the quality. Its fun however.

One major reason why I dont want any internal HDD or Bluray Disk is they are heat dissipating components for which you need an extra tiny plastic fan and which generates sound. So ee lolli enduku ani ivi pettaru. and trust me, you dont want to have these drives anyway.

Jalsa:

Any type of file, let's say MKV file

MKV, DIVX, M2TS.. these are all containers [both audio/video and extra stuff like menus,navigation]. And audio can be Dts/DD/TruHD/AC3 etc.. Video can be mpeg2 etc.. So if a server trascoding a .MKV file doesnt necessary transcode all .MKV files.. say if mkv has audio in Dts, PS3 cannot play the sound..

Network media servers like PS3, XBOX, PCH, WDTV Live, Dune, Egreat.. these all differ in what files they can play and Hi definition support. Most of then cannot play HD stuff and .ISO files.

Added to streaming movies onto tv, advantage is that you can watch Peer-peer networks like BBC TV, CNN, Saya TV [PCH] and hell lot.. the library is just huge .. Live radio is another possibility..

simple. one centralized place to store all media files like songs, videos, pics etc. and you can watch them sitting in front of your big lcd TV, rather than small computer.

Any type of file, let's say MKV file, if we have it on our PC and a DLNA server (TVersity) can transcode the mkv file, the TV can play it. Simple kadhaa? However, there can be a loss of quality due to network limitation or some other reason. Wireless N network might help for the network issue.

Now, what is the advantage of all these media devices?

@simba: may be online streamin ki good GPU kavala ..here's from cnet zino review:
We're also troubled that the Zino couldn't keep up with full-screen standard-definition content from Hulu. For an extra $75 you can upgrade the Zino's integrated ATI Radeon 3200 graphics chip to a discrete Radeon HD 4330 GPU. If you're interested in the Zino as a living room-based video source, upgrading the video chip should be the first move you make when you place your order.

Streaming server is just serving the content. For example, HP EX495 lo GPU ledhu. It is the client which needs to have decent graphics, be it PC or any device.

OPPO BD player is universal player for audiophiles. It supports bd/DVD plus DVD-Audio, SACD which I don't need. It lacks many features like netflix, dlna. It is not worth buying oppo now.

Features wise LG and Samsung are better BD players. Sony is catching up.

Venkateswarlu:

So you can have movies copied onto this player locally without having to worry about network AND you can copy into thumb drive and play it..

this is what i am doing currently, and want to avoid that. right now i am downloading movies to laptop and copying them into thumb drive and plug into DVD player and watching movies on big TV.

my idea is: let the laptop/computer sit at one corner of home and download the movies. i want to stream them via home network to my TV via DLNA device without copying all that stuff.

windows media player 11 lo built-in DLNA server undhi. That is enough. Video formats convert chesukovalante vere software use cheyyi.

Tv tuner is for tuning tv channels from analog cable or OTA antenna.

if you have any DLNA blu-ray player then you don't need any of these popcorn etc right?

That's right. Make sure you have a reliable network connection to the bluray player.

i am not going to rip any BR. this is just to watch blu-ray discs and also act as "client" for streaming videos to my LCD tv.

Dune BD Prime set mama.. You get a drive for BD and I think you can install a 2.5" HDD [Internal hd]. So you can have movies copied onto this player locally without having to worry about network AND you can copy into thumb drive and play it..

As of now, LG BD-390 and newer models, Samsung BD-C5500 and later. Current Sony players will get DLNA support in June via firmware.

You need DLNA server running on PC like WMP 11, TVersity, Twony etc
