HYDERABAD: Yet another sporting event has become a casualty of the ongoing agitation for separate Telangana. The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) has decided not to take risk of hosting the South Zone K.S. Subbaiah Pillai Trophy in Hyderabad and shifted the venue to Chennai. The one-dayers were to be held from February 10 to 16. HCA vice-president N. Shivlal Yadav, however, discounted the argument that the venue was shifted because of the troubled situation in the State capital. He maintained that the venue was shifted as the curator would have very short time to prepare the pitch for the two one-day matches to be played between India and England women’s team in the third week of February. “We are hosting the Duleep Trophy final from February 2 to 6 at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium. So, if we go ahead with the Subbaiah Pillai Trophy, the time left will not be adequate to prepare the wicket for the women’s one-dayers,” Mr. Yadav explained. However, the decision obviously came after a Hyderabad-Andhra match in Deccan T-20 Cup at the same venue had to be abandoned after protesters stormed into the ground recently. The IPL-3 inaugural in March was also shifted to Mumbai subsequently. The HCA appeared to be in no mood to host five matches which Andhra plays in the Subbaiah Pillai Trophy. “What is the guarantee there will be no trouble?” argues a senior official. Incidentally, the Telangana JAC convenor Kodandaram had assured cooperation to HCA clarifying that Hyderabad was being deprived of a chance to witness the world class event (IPL-3 inaugural). “We extend our wholehearted support to a trouble-free IPL season,” the JAC convenor said in a statement.
