Depends on how you apply it - try putting a couple of lines together and then see if it works... Metaphors work if you highlight the biggest commonalities - they do not necesssarily have to be perfect match on everything.

Usually this does not happen unless things have deteriorated too much.. If someone is in a higher rank than you - they need your assistance to succeed in their role. They do not gain anything by trashing you. Try to understand where they are coming from.. if they see you as an ally you will not have this problem.
