The 1st rule was recently put in place after the Headingley case, where foreigners used to come and move out of india at will. So they tried to introduce a 2 month gap required before they can come back. "Americans with five-or ten-year tourist visas will no longer be allowed to enter India within two months of their last departure from India if their last visit was longer than ninety days or if they have stayed longer than 180 days during the past year," the advisory on the embassy website said. This will not affect OIC card holders I guess. still speculative at this point, i need to find out 2. RBI permission is not needed for commercial plots it is needed for Agricultural lands beyond certain acreage I think 3. I did not read this rule | ||

Yes, you can. You have to go back and stay in the country for certain period of time (I think five years) and apply to reclaim your citizenship. | ||

No, they are not different for NRIs. Being a US citizen, any law related issues, US consulates work with you to make sure you get justice under the local laws. If you are involved in nefarious activities, like the five US citizens held in Pakistan recently with AlQueda ties, there is a chance that both countries could put you behind the bars. | ||

India is implementing new rules. 1) You cannot travel frequently to india.. you should have atleast 6 months gap 2) you need to get rbi permission to buy property. Now it is only for agriclutural. 3) you need to get permission from Govt to work in india. NRI US Citzens 1. Cannot buy agricultural lands but can inherit them 2. Can buy commercial plots 3. Can invest in companies subject o RBI rules 4. Can buy shares subject RBI rules and declare income here 5. Need to pay taxes in India and file taxes here but can claim credit 6. OIC cards give advantage of not going through hassles of visa to go to India every time and no need to inform law enforcement agencies about whereabouts 7. Can return anytime to USA 8.
