Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah has no personal view on the bifurcation of the state and will like the Centre to find a lasting solution not a temporary truce. He says he will accept whatever the Central government decides. The low-profile vetaran Congress told PTI in an interview today that he has no personal view on the bifurcation issue.

Mr Rosaiah, who was Finance Minister in Y.S.R. Reddy's Cabinet, incidentially headed a Committee to seek views on separate Telangana. An all-party conference of political parties from Andhra Pradesh met in Delhi last week after the Centre is understood to be considering setting up a mechanism to carry forward the talks.

According to informed sources, the Prime Minister remarked that the Centre would have been happy if creation of a Telangana State were as peaceful as it was in the case of Uttaranchal, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.

"But unfortunately, that did not happen. Give us a reasonable period of time to think on how to go ahead. Till then, you have to be patient," Singh reportedly told Rao.

At the end of his week-long stay in New Delhi, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief K Chandrasekhara Rao will be returning to Hyderabad rather unhappily.

During the course of his last engagement in Delhi on Sunday meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Rao was given enough hints that the Centre would not like to take any step on the Telangana issue until peace prevailed for a reasonable period in the State.

That means even the constitution of a committee to devise a roadmap for consultations might be postponed by at least a week or two.

If handling agitations for and against the division of the State is one aspect of the problem, the Congress leadership appears clueless on political management in both the regions should the State be divided.

The reason for this is the impression created by some Congress leaders that the party would lose out in both Telangana and Coastal Andhra if it went ahead with bifurcation. Their logic is that while the TRS would take the lead in Telangana, riding high on the campaign that it is singularly responsible for achieving statehood, public anger in the Coastal region against splitting of the State could ruin the chances of Congress there as well.

Back in Hyderabad, soon after receiving information about Chandrasekhara Rao's meeting with the Prime Minister, TRS leaders went into a huddle to decide their future course of action. Their first priority seems to be to ensure that the January 12th meeting of the political JAC of Telangana reflects the same kind of unity that has been displayed thus far.
