Manning got 39 1/2 votes to 7 1/2 for Drew Brees as only quarterbacks who received any backing. Other votes went to San Diego’s Philip Rivers with two, and Minnesota’s Brett Favre with one.

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning has won his fourth NFL MVP award. Manning's fourth MVP is a record for the NFL as Brett Favre is the only other player that has won three MVP trophies.

Manning finished the 2009 regular season with a career-high 68.8 percent completion rate. He threw for 4,500 yards and 33 touchdowns as he led a team of All-Pro Reggie Wayne and a group of untested rookie wide receivers to a 14-2 record.

Manning has been the face of the Indianapolis Colts franchise since he drafted first overall out of Tennessee in 1998. The Colts are the number one seed in the AFC and are in the playoffs for the eighth consecutive season.

For the season, Manning put together seven fourth-quarter comebacks, which was an NFL record. He also helped Wayne and tight end Dallas Clark become the fourth set of teammates to have at least 100 receptions in a season.

The Indianapolis Colts' sensational quarterback romps to the award Saturday in balloting by 50 sports writers and broadcasters who cover the league. He gets 39 1/2 votes to 7 1/2 for Drew Brees as only quarterbacks receive any backing.

The 33-year-old Manning joins Wayne Gretzky (9), Barry Bonds (7) and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (6) as the leader for most valuable player awards in his sport.
