Former Naxals of the Janashakti and Maoist groups have been taking advantage of the Telangana agitation to extort money from a cross section of citizens. Realtors, educational institutions and industrialists in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda and Medak from the Andhra region are the targets of the extortion gangs who are demanding protection money. City and Cyberabad police have received several oral complaints of extortion and the Task Force and Special Operation teams have been assigned the job of tracking the extortionists. The Inspector General of Police, Ms A. R. Anuradha, said, There were several incidents earlier of pseudo Naxalites in Hyderabad demanding protection money from doctors and builders, but it had come down.
