With pro and anti sections for creation of more new states rearing their head in several states in the wake of KCR’s satyagrahi saga on Telangana, the Centre may find it expedient to remit the issue to a new state reorganisation commission and thus allow tempers to cool. While coastal and Rayalaseema regions have reacted angrily to the planned creation of Telangana, the Trinamul Congress and the CPM have opposed the move for Gorkhaland state in North Bengal. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Ajit Singh has threatened to launch a fresh agitation for creation of Harita Pradesh out of Western Uttar Pradesh, which is his family’s pocket borough.
