Naa Yahho InBox lo undi and nenu busy undi 5 days tarvatha chusthunna!! Friend from Mahabubnagar!! Dear Editor, Subject: We Hyderabadis like a united Andhra Pradesh I would like to address this letter to the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the students fighting for a separate Telangana state. Dear JAC, You are fighting for a separate Telangana state saying that injustices were done to Telangana people with certain issues and also saying you do not want to bear the insults from Andra rulers. But, if you get Telangana, what next? People from North Telangana do not want to be ruled by leaders from South Telangana? Where is the end to division? Leaders from Telangana have become Chief Ministers and Prime ministers. The word âAndhra rulersâ is silly. I do think that not enough irrigation projects were built for the benefit of Telangana farmers. But the independent Andhra Pradesh did not build much irrigation projects for Andhra either. British built Dhavaleshwaram. Nagarjuna sagar benefits both Telangana and Andhra. Sriram Sagar benefits only Telangana. The natural landscape of Telangana makes it expensive to built "lift" irrigation projects in Telangana. Please remember, the state coffers were empty until recently, we always struggled to pay even the salaries of the state government employees. Next comes the issue of discrimination of hiring in state government jobs. What percent of students get state government jobs now? Even if there is a slight discrimination, how many students of Telangana would lose out on getting a government job? Would it be 1000 per year? But, what about the benefit of having Hyderabad as a capital of the whole Andhra Pradesh? What about having 42 MPs working for the benefit for all of us in Delhi? What about lakhs of jobs grabbed by Telangana students and manual labour in Hyderabad in private sector? What about the sacrifice of Kurnool in letting Hyderabad the capital? If Telangana gets separated and Vizag becomes the capital of the rest of Andhra Pradesh, what would be the shape and dynamics of Hyderabad 20 years from now? There is a saying in English 'Be aware of what you wish for, you might actually get it'. Just like some Telangana people went to Delhi to get jobs, people from Andhra and Rayalaseema came to "THEIR OWNâ state capital for jobs and business. What is wrong in it? We Hyderabadis do not see any problem. When my family moved from Nizamabad to Hyderabad in late 1970s, my mother did not know how to speak in Hindi/Urdu. She had a tough time finding auto drivers or businessmen who spoke in Telugu. That was a disaster in the land of Telugus. Some of Andhra people made fun of the mix of Urdu in my language, but I did not feel they were insulting me. We Hyderabadis have our own culture. Starting from our elementary school days, when making friends we did not see if the other kid was from Telangana or Andhra, Hindu or Muslim, or belonged to any particular caste. Dear JAC, if you have a problem with Andhra and Rayalaseema people settling in Hyderabad, then we Hyderabad people have a problem with you guys coming to Hyderabad for studies and jobs and try to mess up our Hyderabad culture. If 20 years from now the greater Hyderabad population goes down from 1 crore to 50 lakhs, then half the houses would go empty and that would be a disaster for many people, including the original Hyderabadis. Dear JAC, you are welcome to stay in Hyderabad and pursue a better life for you, but if you want to have your own Telangana, then we Hyderabadis would suggest you to get out of our city and go back to your own district. Please do not pull a Shiv Sena crap in Hyderabad. It is not ok for us that you burned Durga Vilas hotel and broke glasses of other businesses with a laugh on your faces. This is not fun for us as it is to you. It is a fundamental right of every Indian to settle down wherever he/she likes to in India. Hyderabad became a super duper city despite not having a geographical advantage of having a port. Itâs only advantage is being the state capital of 8 crore people. Chennai survived the division of state because it still had the whole Tamil Nadu. Telangana would be too small for Hyderabad to remain an economic power. I believe that building a good amount of irrigation projects in Telangana is the only need now. People who have 50 acres of land in certain parts of Andhra are stinking rich and become big realtors and movie producers in Hyderabad while my uncles are a mere middle class people with the same 50 acres of land in Telangana. I can only imagine the plight of farmers who have less than 5 acres in Telangana because it is an extremely tough life for farmers to depend on rain for their livelihood. Sincerely, Ravinder Reddy, NRI. |
