Benton is best known for -- and most proud of -- Old Shep, its "forever faithful" sheep dog. In the summer of 1936, a sheep herder fell ill and headed to Ft. Benton for treatment. His dog, Shep, came along. When the herder died a few days later, his body was crated up and sent back east to relatives. Shep followed the box to the Ft. Benton train depot, and watched nervously as his master was put on board and taken away. No one remembers the name of the herder. But everyone remembers Shep. Because for the next five and a half years, Shep maintained a vigil at the station, greeting the four trains that arrived each day, waiting for his master to return. Two and a half years into the watch, Old Shep was featured in Ripley's Believe It or Not, and became a Depression-era sensation. Fan mail poured in. School children sent Christmas gifts. Rail travelers took long detours off the mainline, just to stop in Ft. Benton and see this devoted dog meet their train. Eventually, tragedy struck. On January 12, 1942, little more than a month after the attack on Pearl Harbor, an old and deaf Shep failed to hear the 10:17, then slipped on an icy rail trying to get away. Shep's obituary was carried on both wire services, and his funeral two days later was attended by hundreds, with an honor guard and pall bearers. Thats Amazing Bro. It was very difficult for us to go to movie (all the family). Fortunately my firends family used to take care. It use to shiver and shout a lot for 1 hr, after we were out of sight. When we are back it used to go mad with happiness and shower all its affection on us. We Burried Our Tony in our Home on the backyard and erected a small memorial. We even have his life size photo in the lining room | ||

food doesnt matter bro....not even a wee bit..our love is their food.....eggs and milk make a v healthy diet..u dont have to feed meat.. go for one of these: golden retreiver (most obedient and loyal breed..akc ranking # 1), irish setter (hailed as the most beautiful dog by famous painters), labrador (but u have to exercise otherwise they may get destructive), german shepherd..all of these are large dogs.. surprisingly HYD has GREAT kennels.. | ||

great to know bro...dogs understand and share our emotions..thats why they are the best.. one incident from my side..we are vegetarians....so our german shepherd used to get his favorite food (meat) only a couple of times a week..sometimes when my dad is away, not even a couple of times..we used to feel bad about that....so when we left him with a good dog/pet sitter, we thought he would get used to the meat (they feed beef daily)..when we returned to pick him up after a week, one jump and he was in our car..he was so scared that we'll abandon him that he did not step out of the car for a longg time.. dogs rock! | ||

Pet Dogs are amazing Man. They love and Greet us with Same affection every day, every time we come back home. We has extraordinary 11 years relationship with my our Pet dog Tony. As they grow with us , they become part of our family and can understand emotions / sorrow / happiness of the family. Once such incident. Once My Dad had an emotion Outburst and Cried, It immediately ran towards him and started signalling not to cry by waving hand at his face. Hachiko....this dog has a temple erected in japan....amazing story..he waited for 10 years for his master to return.. In 1924, HachikŨ was brought to Tokyo by his owner, HidesaburŨ Ueno, a professor in the agriculture department at the University of Tokyo. During his owner's life HachikŨ saw him off from the front door and greeted him at the end of the day at the nearby Shibuya Station. The pair continued their daily routine until May 1925, when Professor Ueno did not return on the usual train one evening. The professor had suffered a stroke at the university that day. He died and never returned to the train station where his friend was waiting. HachikŨ was given away after his master's death, but he routinely escaped, showing up again and again at his old home. Eventually, HachikŨ apparently realized that Professor Ueno no longer lived at the house. So he went to look for his master at the train station where he had accompanied him so many times before. Each day, HachikŨ waited for Professor Ueno to return. And each day he did not see his friend among the commuters at the station. The permanent fixture at the train station that was HachikŨ attracted the attention of other commuters. Many of the people who frequented the Shibuya train station had seen HachikŨ and Professor Ueno together each day. They brought HachikŨ treats and food to nourish him during his wait. This continued for 10 years, with HachikŨ appearing only in the evening time, precisely when the train was due at the station.[2] |
