Times of India, Hyderabad:Public opinion is building up against Tollywood heroines -almost all of them are from outside the state-for being non-responsive to the worst in hundred years floods in Andhra Pradesh. None of them have chipped in for the relief work in the wake of floods, nor made any monetary contribution to the cause of relief and rehabilitation of the flood victims. âTollywoodâs imported heroines are showing no sense of belonging,â rued Natti Kumar, joint secretary of Telugu Film Producersâ Council. âTelugu audiences have always welcomed and showered affection on them. Distressed flood victims need help but though it has been a fortnight since the gushing waters destabilised lives in five districts, heroines who act the âTelugu ammayiâ with ease on screen have shown no concern in real life,â complained M Vijayender Reddy, president of Hyderabad State Film Chamber of Commerce. Some of the top heroes - though aloof to start with - have chipped in and the Movie Artistes Association (MAA) has announced that it would organise a show on November 7 in the city to raise funds for flood victims. It is not that the heroines are poorly paid. Until 5-7 years ago, the maximum remuneration a heroine could expect for a film was Rs 8 lakh. With filmgoers welcoming fresh talent and appreciating them, the buzz is that heroines are now commanding even Rs 80 lakh per film and more. When Tollywoodâs bigwigs led by Dasari Narayana Rao announced the star show that is to be organised next month, the heroines of the day were conspicuous by their absence. Though miffed, the film industry is hardly surpised. According to sources, Tollywoodâs producers have also been having a problem with heroines who refuse to even put in an appearance at the audio release functions or other events without being paid. âIt is no surprise that they have not responded to the calamity,â a producer said. Tollywoodâs imported heroines include Ileana DâCruz, Genelia DâSouza, Trisha, Shriya Saran, Asin, Charmee Kaur, Anushka and Priyamani. Integrity means doing it right when no one is looking |
