It is fine with playing DVDs. For bluray, the HD-audio needs HDMI connection from PS3 to AV. Otherwise, you would play the core (lossy) audio track. | ||

@Wrathchild I know that HDMI is for both...so does that mean if I connect ps3 via HDMI to TV, I cannot connect ps3 at the same time to AV via optical cable? do you "have" to route audio from TV to AV? I was planning to configure the first way | ||

That's one way of connecting. You don't need receiver to be ON all the time. I connect all the sources to receiver via HDMI and one HDMI from receiver to TV. Wrath, PS3 slim should not have any audio problems out-of-the-box. May be mallik got a defective one. | ||
