Jayaprada Ramamurthi enthrals with her flute recital

quote:

TIRUPATI: Jayaprada Ramamurthi floored the audience with her impressive flute performance at Mahati auditorium here on Sunday at the 286th in the series of cultural events organised by the Academy of Fine Arts.

Daughter of the noted Carnatic musician Prema Ramamurthy, Jayaprada was initiated into the world of classical music at a very young age. While women generally evince little interest in wielding the flute, for reasons beyond one's comprehension, she prepared herself for a career in flute and soon became an 'A' grade artist.

Her concert started with the rendition of 'Vaathapi Ganapathim Bhaje' to invoke the blessings of Lord Ganesh, followed by 'Krishna Govinda Hari', Annamayya's famous compositions 'Kondalalo nelakonna' and 'Venkatachala nilayam', Sri Thyagayya's 'Sara sara samara' and 'Nagumomu', Sadasiva Brahmendra’s 'O Shambo Siva Shambo' and the Kannada number 'Bhagyada Lakshmi baramma'. Pudukkottai Ramanathan on violin, A. Satyanarayana on ghatam and P. Balasubramanyam on mrudangam proved to be effective accompanists.

Rare honour

Yadagirigutta Devasthanam has bestowed the rare honour of being the temple's 'Asthana Vidushi' on Jayaprada, who is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in commerce. She has to her credit the titles 'Vamsi Vinodini' conferred by Sneha Ranjani and 'Venugana Praveena' by Sri Thyagaraya Ganasabha.
