and this is from TANA....Thanks ------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------------- Dear Members: As many of you are probably aware through the electronic and print media - heavy rains in Andhra Pradesh have caused an alarming level of rise in water levels in Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers that has left many towns flooded with Kurnool District and Mahaboobnagar being the hardest hit. Certain areas in Krishna Dt and the town of Kurnool as well as Mantralayam, the home of the famous Sree Raghavendra Swamy temple town are under water. It is a disastrous situation being described as the worst in 106 years with the lack of food, power and medicines. There are also reports that many people are feared dead and thousands displaced or evacuated because of the back waters deluge. The immediate priority of the government as well as other non-profits is to rescue people and consequently provide relief and medical support. It is expected that the flood water will not recede until after twenty to thirty days. It is being reported that with over 26 lakh cusecs of water gushing in, irrigation authorities lifted all crest gates of Srisailam dam situated on river Krishna to let out the excess water that has accumulated to 895 feet to contain the damage. We feel that it is our immediate responsibility and duty to lend a helping hand at the very earliest towards the immediate and gradual relief efforts that are a consequence of this natural calamity. TANA is helping flood victims by providing food, medicines and clothes and is actively participating in other rehabilitative measures. TANA is soliciting generous donations to help with the immediate and future rehabilitation efforts from with good hearted members and their friends. Please ensure that you act at the earliest even if it is a small amount- so that we have a timely contribution to an ongoing situation. Please support the Flood Victims in Andhra Pradesh by using the following link to DONATE.
