Pplsuck...I was the one who asked moderators to delete that link. Even if you caution them beforehand most of them will watch and repent later...its very disturbing...aghoras indulge in extreme tamasic ways of tantric rituals for siddhis...these are absolutely unacceptable by civilized societies...many people use those examples to antagonize hinduism...no one is going to find it amusing when a man eats the corpse of another man...or drinking the raw blood of a decapitated chicken. Yeah, I know the context in which Shawshank said it - and my post was just to highlight how easy it is for scriptures to be distorted over time...nobody questions that Rama is blue - a physiologically impossible or atleast unhealthy color Agendas - everything religious is based on an agenda - for or against a position the religion takes- don't you think ? aa chal ke tujhe main leke chalu ik aise gagan ke tale jahan gam bhi na ho, aansoo bhi na ho,bas pyaar hi pyaar pale |

I look at all these stories for Allegorical references to spiritual consciousnes..and somehow Ramayana/Mahabharata do not appeal to me... Nenu chadivina vaatillo both versions unnayi andi .. in the sense, some said Rama was Blue and in some, it is said he was dark and handsome. In any case, Rama was also not white in complexion is a point that was relevant to that question of racism in Hindu scripture. Btw .. Thanks for the tip on mood enhancing techniques andi. Common misconception and translation error Neela megha - Neela in Sanskrit just means dark - not blue in that context. Our artists took it as blue and depicted them as such Same error as the " horned Moses " depicted by Michael Angelo - translation error changed Moses from someone with a halo/glow to someone with horns

Lionswalkalone:Have you ever tried to view/interpret our mythology from a Pure Racism stand point..leaving aside all our religious affiliations and sentiments?..
'Asuras are dark skinned' is a misconception. Asuras live among us...in fact each one of us has asura qualities. Having said that, in ancient indian tradition Virochana was the first great king of the Asuras, possessing supernatural powers. Investigations in Assyrian mythology prove the existence of a tradition in Assyrian history about such a king, called Berosus in certain ancient generalogies. It is believed that all the westerners are his descendants...In hindu mythology Virochana was a great king of asura, son of Prahlada and father of Bali. He was the master of five elements of nature...he manipulated pancha boothas as puppets...that explains the desire and mastery of westerners over materialistic knowledge. quote:The Indian autumn or sharad rutu is a season of happiness when several festivals are celebrated. The first nine nights in the seventh month of the Hindu calendar Ashwin are celebrated as Navratri mainly in honour of Goddess Durga, who is worshipped in Goa in the forms of Sateri, Shantadurga, Bhumika, Bhagvati and Mauli. A feeling of expectancy fills the air and everyone looks forward with eagerness to the Navratri, dedicated to the worship of different aspects of Durga, Saraswati and Laxmi. In most temples across Goa, on the first day of Navratri, a ritual of Ghatsthapana is conducted wherein a pitcher filled with water is worshipped in the temple and nine types of grains are kept for germination. On the tenth day, these sprouted grains are distributed among the devotees, with women using them to decorate their hair. Every night a new garland is placed around the pitcher. Every night the pitcher is worshipped and an eulogy or aarati is sung to the accompaniment of musical instruments. In some temples, a religious discourse praising Goddess Shakti with Saptashati is read. Besides, performance of kirtans are specially organized, in which well-known folk artists present kirtans, which are compositions marked by singing, recitation and dramatization. The farming communities reap the panicles of paddy and use them with mango leaves to make a chain that is tied over the entrance of their houses and temples on the tenth day of the Navratri. Pandurang Devari of Borim says, "The nine nights of Navratri are marked by a variety of religious and cultural performances in the temple of Navdurga, Borim wherein the whole village is engrossed in devotion". Temples of Kalika in Kasarpal, Navdurga in Borim and Mahalaxmi in Bandora are known all over Goa for `Makhorotsav', wherein the deity is seated on a vehicle having the design of an eagle or lion or tiger on each day of Navratri. The goddess is made to sit on a swing decorated with flowers and a bell is rung when it is moved to and fro. Gradually, swinging of the makhar alongwith the deity transforms the devotees into a trance. Goan cities come alive with music and dance celebrations during the nights. Young girls wearing colourful outfits and boys with churidar kurtas play the Garbas and the Dandiya raas.

Yes. There has been in depth discussions in christian circles about how the concept of christ was copied from Krishna...there are lot more similarities between them in addition to what you mentioned. Existence of Jesus itself is in question according to many western atheists. They allege that they just copy pasted ancient mythologies including Gods of Antiquity, such as Krishna of India, Ausar, Auset, and Heru of Ancient Kemit (Egypt) Sometimes I wish life had subtitles! |

Ishan: Perhaps these forms were propagated by Tantrics...Shakti is their primary goddess in ferocious form.
Ishan:Actual puranas that followed vedas attribute little less power to Devi.
All pagan religions were Goddess centric to begin with I have my own theories on the chronology and the motivation of the waxing and waning of powers/negative aspects ascribed to different Gods/Goddesses... But to stay on topic, The Mother is always kind, forgiving and mokshadayini in whichever form you see her- even in her ferocious forms... Someone once told me "Such is her grace that only in the Mother's temple, even the vanquished demons are given a place and worshipped with her" BTW, Calling Nisarga,Unortho thread lo oka article on 3 levels of Consciousness link ichanu - read it when you find time - Nagarjuna's teachings from a psychology perspective aa chal ke tujhe main leke chalu ik aise gagan ke tale jahan gam bhi na ho, aansoo bhi na ho,bas pyaar hi pyaar pale |

Anand_n:It is all one battle between Lalitha Devi and Bhandasura in his various forms..the legend goes that the divine mother created the dasavataras out of her fingernails
Actual puranas that followed vedas attribute little less power to Devi. But this story of Devi creating dasavathara and mastery over trinity must have originated in shakti purana, by shaktites. Anand_n: This is also variable...like our Temple does Bala Tripura sundari, Gayatri,Annapoorna, Lalitha, Gauri,Lakshmi, Saraswati, Durga , Kali :-) I believe the same pattern as followed in the Vijayawada Kanakadurga temple...
Yeah south indian versions are different. Anand_n:There is the other set of Dasa Mahavidyas - the ten manifestations of Shakti followed by Shaktas... the forms are ferocious and scary, and I had always avoided them due to conditioning myself.
Perhaps these forms were propagated by Tantrics...Shakti is their primary goddess in ferocious form. Sometimes I wish life had subtitles! |

But started looking into the spiritual context and it is very interesting Kali, Tara, Lalitha,Bhuvaneshwari, Bhairavi,Chhinnamastha, Dhumavathi,Bagalamukhi, Matangi, Lakshmi These are original goddesses worshipped across the country and have rather fierce/disturbing postures and give an insight into the origins of the Goddess culture aa chal ke tujhe main leke chalu ik aise gagan ke tale jahan gam bhi na ho, aansoo bhi na ho,bas pyaar hi pyaar pale |

There are many approaches to looking at Devi: chronological, religious, or by function...If we look from functional point, six main functions, beginning with her most forceful and dynamic form and moving toward less potent forms. Devi is first seen as cosmic force, where she destroys demonic forces that threaten world equilibrium, and creates, annihilates, and recreates the universe. Next, in her gentle, radiant dayini form, she is the gracious donor of boons, wealth, fortune, and success. As heroine and beloved, Devi comes down to earth and provides inspiring models for earthly women. Devi is then seen as a local protector of villages , towns, and individual tribal peoples, where she is concerned only with local affairs. In her fifth aspect, Devi appears as semi-divine force, manifesting herself through fertility spirits, and other supernatural forms. Finally, she is also represented in woman saints, who are born on earth but endowed with deep spirituality and other-worldly powers. During this period, Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati are worshiped as three different manifestations of Shakti or Cosmic energy. Sometimes I wish life had subtitles! |

Devi Navaratri ki chala stories and interpretations unnayi ..anni type chese opika ledu.. But I just posted my favorite one in Mikky's thread and will repeat it here for those unfamiliar with it... Adi Shakti is considered to be the Consciousness in us Thru these nine days we celebrate the Mother's victory over different demons. The Divine mother's duels with the demons are allegories to our Consciousness' battles with our internal demons. In the Shakti form , she annihilates the negative forces of anger, greed, hatred, lust, pride, jealously, intolerance etc... Devi Navaratri eulogises the removal and destruction of these obstacles on the Spiritual path by the Mother Bhavani Mee favorite interpretations post cheyyandi aa chal ke tujhe main leke chalu ik aise gagan ke tale jahan gam bhi na ho, aansoo bhi na ho,bas pyaar hi pyaar pale |
