It is a fact that Govt. orgs are always understaffed. It is a fact that tens of thousands of jobs can be created in the public sector itself for its better functioning. Ppl with min education can be trained into doing those jobs, and thus earn their living. The same funds used for 2Rs rice can be used to do all this. Its a win win for both the Govt., and people. Ala pani kalpinchi subsidy ki food isthe ok.
An eg. it has been studied and proved that about 50k jobs can be created in the power distribution sector itself. This will save crores of Rs. from electricity wastage, and create jobs at the same time.

I am not against subsidized food, but against fixing a price.

NTR's schemes were populist at best. For me his primary intention was attracting ppl to vote to him. Welfare is an added thing.
If he was so concerned about ppls welfare why did he have to give rice for the same 2Rs even after his 10yrs rule?What did he do to improve the standard of ppl's living?
The most unfortunate thing out of this is that the 2Rs thing has become a prestige issue. That is why we are stuck with the same price, even today when rice in the market is 20Rs, about 7 times higher than the initial days of the scheme. |

Okay .. here is my take. NTR is the one who opposed dynasty politics in AP. Kudos and hats off. But what happened in 1994-95 was actually something, he opposed tooth and nail. Today TDP is nothing but another dynasty infested party. People (TDP fans) here can vouch that, in the near future, if anybody comes to the top of the party, he/she surely must be from NTR family. If TDP had to get rid of dynasty from politics, TDP had many able people like Ashok Gajapati Raju, Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, Madhava Reddy in 1995 who should have succeeded NTR.
