Yes, it tells a sorry tale of the omnipresent male dominance in this society. When we do come across the abused women and hear their tales ... its pretty heart wrenching and looking at the anguish in their eyes (usually due to their hate towards almost every male in this planet) sends a chill down my spine. I hate to be reduced to a mere spectator in these scenarios. The constant stalking of them by their lunatic hubbies ... threats from those mfers and the guy's family members ... its damn scary how the women manage to fend them off sometimes without the help of cops and what amazes me is the women come up strong even without the support of their family. Inspiring is the way they manage to live this kind of a life in an alienated land - far away from home!

Pretty sad stories Crunk. These kind of domestic violence stories are pretty common not only in south asian families but also in Mexican and lower income white communities. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1k7U3OPlREI

Hmmm gosh I had an middle aged Gujju lady as a roomie. She was going thru a torrid time as she was amidst a violent divorce procedure. Her hubby used to abuse her like crazy it seems ... burn her with cigarette butts and crazy shit like that ... coz of only one reason - she wanted to work and be independant. Before moving into our townhome she lived at a abused women shelter. She always keeps in touch with the women in the shelter even after she moved out from there. She once asked me whether I could help out the women in the shelter and drive them to Walmart. Without a second thought I said yes ... I was surprised when I encountered four women in their early twenties. Three of them were from Pakistan and one muslim girl from Mehdipatnam (Hyd). All were pretty good looking and I was like which mfer of a husband would abuse girls like them. Flashes of Aishwarya's character in Provoked were going thru my mind... how she teaches the abusive husband a lesson. Slowly the girls opened up about their past and how they were abused. The girl from Hyd it seems was kicked by her hubby while she was pregnant! She was his third wife ... and it seems now her hubby stalks her for her kid. One girl from Lahore was harassed everyday by her hubby because of dowry issues. The two other girls from Pak too were abused everyday ... they can't go back to their home back in Pak and their parents too don't want them there since it wud bring the 'wrath of society' upon the family. I was like wtf is wrong with ppl ... why to marry a girl ... bring her here and abuse her day in and day out. Loser mfers. Well at least at the shelter they have a happy life as a clique ... they share their joy n sorrow ... search for odd jobs and send their kids to school.
