http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/news/city/bangalore/IISc- is-Indias-No-1-tech-institute/articleshow/4930829.cms IISc has been ranked the number one engineering/technology institute among top 67 science institutes in the country. IIT-Kanpur comes in at second place, followed by IIT-Bombay, IIT-Kharagpur and Delhi at third, fourth and fifth position respectively. The ranking, published in the Current Science, has been done by scholars Gangan Prathap and B M Gupta of the National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources and National Institute of Science, Technology and Development Studies, New Delhi. The other institutes within top 10 include Jadavpur University ranked 6, IIT-Madras 7, IIT-Roorkee 8, Anna University 9 and IIT-Guwahati ranked 10. http://www.deccanchronicle.com/hyderabad/3-ap-institutes-top -indian-tech-college-list-432 The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) Hyderabad, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal and the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Hyderabad have been ranked among the top 67 Indian engineering and technological institutes for their research performance between 1999 and 2008. The institutes have been given ranks based on their performance in terms of number of research papers published and the quality of those research papers. While the JNTU-Hyderabad and NIT-Warangal figured in the toppersâlist on both the parameters, IIT-Hyderabad found a place only in the list of number of research papers published. In terms of quality, JNTU-Hyderabad was ranked 18th while NIT-Warangal bagged the 21st place. In terms of number of papers published, JNTU-Hyderabad was 19th, NIT-Warangal 27the and IIIT-Hyderabad 33rd. The institutes have been ranked by Dr Gangan Prathap and Mr B.M. Gupta of the National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources and the National Institute of Science, Technology and Development Studies, New Delhi. The rankings have been published in the Current Science Journal. âAmong the major countries, India has the largest number of engineering and technological institutes. The country produces over three lakh engineering graduates every year. However, only a handful of universities like the IISc and some IITs account for most of the research output of the country,â Dr Gangan Prathap said. |
