Vaskodigama:

tty lo "connection type" telnet select cheskunte it will prompt for initial password expire.. from there on you can use ssh type (provided ssh is allowed on that machine .. otherwise you need to use telnet)

since you use telnet to login, why don't you try do telnet from DOS prompt. login to your unix system. change your password. next time use teh changed password to login using SSH connection from putty. don't do any config changes in putty.

The admin has to reset your password. Once that is done you can use your putty and change your password.

Normally, Unix admin resets your password and he can force change; when you login to the unix box (using ur id and new password set by unix admin) it will prompt for password change.

i was trying to login to unix machine using putty but it was throwing me an error
'server unexpectedly closed the connection'

Unix admin said when current password expires, it will prompt you for a new password.Unfortunately, putty doesnt support this, therefore the error

any freeware editors like putty, that will prompt you for new passwords
