Copied from internet-- I had the misfortune of watching one of first shows of Kandhaswamy on Thursday night in New Jersey. Apparently this was the first screening in the world, the general public had not watched it anywhere in the world. I paid USD $18 for the tickets. What a waste. Right in the Vikram introduction scene we get an idea the idea that the director is seriously lacking in screen presentation. From the first scene on its all down hill. The story by itself is not very different from stories of Shankar movies. Sort of like a Robin Hood story. Vikram is a CBI officer who sort of does what Indian Kamal/Anniyan Vikram/Sivaji Rajini did in the respective movies. The modus operandi of Kadhaswamy is similar to Ramana Vijaykanth. The story is not as much a let down as the visual presentation. No a single scene in the movie makes an impact. The characters are not well etched including those of Vikram, Shriya, villans etc. The audience is bored within ten minutes of the movies. Two villains are shown as a representation of the kind of people Vikram goes after and the episodes in the story are about these two villains. So we fail to see/realize/understand what the hero seems to be doing in the grand scale he is claiminng to be working in. I think the Producer and Vikram have taken director Susi Ganesan too seriously and invested too much time and money on this guy. Susi Ganesan fails to translate what he may have told Producer and Vikram. The visual moves very slowly, the editing is choppy and annoying in songs and in scenes. The camera is very disappointing, the cinematographer seems to have had some idea about giving some tone to the visuals, we see some yellow tone -layman terms-, and its really annoying. No even one scene made me - and the audience- appreciate the visuals. Screenplay is another stupidity in the movie, the plot in Mexico where the sub-villain takes Vikram to an open field to kill him is a perfect example. You have to see this scene to get the sense of disbelief we went through. We don't even know why they bothered going to Mexico and many scenes in Mexico make no sense - let alone the song-. Don't even ask me about Vadivelu jokes. Technically the movie is not at all impressive, I've told you about Cinematography and editing, now let me not even say anything about choreography, stunts, background score etc. There were only 20 of us in the theater this evening because it was a premiere show and not a single person liked the movie. One of main 'message' of the movie is that people who have a lot of money -especially made in illegal ways- use the money for luxurious indulgence -including vices-, that money could be spent on poor people or by adopting families/villages. One person who watched the movie with me commented that if the producer had spent just Rs. one Crore on the movie and spent the rest of poor people it would have been a better use of money rather than indulging in Susu Ganesan's loopy ideas. I have no idea what they were doing for 2+ years making this movie. If you want to see a decent movie do yourself a favor and go watch the Telugu movie Maghadhera, I paid $9 and fully enjoyed. I am angry that I had to spend $18 on this nonsense, I am embarrassed to have been part of this. But I can at least save my fellow citizens, hence wrote this review in the middle of the night. |
