i remember you could not come to US. Better stick to Blore offer if you want some peace and similarity to US life. I lived in Kolkata for 2 years in Salt Lake City. IBM most likely is in Saltlec Electronic complex. Kolkata is very backward when compared to Hyderabad. In fact the whole West Bengal is at least 25 years backward when compared to Andhra Pradesh. Food is a big problem. You can get bhaath (rice), maach (fish), roti (chapathi), dhal (pappu), sabzi (alu curry) ec., But you get plenty of Chai (tea) and Mishti Dhoi (sweet curd) and of course lot of sweets (but you don't want to burden your liver with sugar! Unlike in Hyderabad where plenty of fruit vendors are on the roadside you find it rarely in Kolkata. You can't get idly, dosa, upma and other SouthIndian dishes. When I was travelling to Kolkata by train one Telugu Gentleman was sitting beside me. He said that he is working for Doordarshan. He asked me why the hell I am going to Kolkata? He said that Kolkata is "GOD foresaken city" WHat he said is true. WHen I first landed in Howrah Station it was a nightmarish experience. When I travelled in Taxi to Saltlake City it was very shocking to see the old dilapidated buildings and the half naked people on the roads. It is very pathetic. But after having lived for a year I started liking the place. I like their festivals like Durga Puja, their culture, their marriages etc., West Bengal is famous for cotton sarees. Kolkota is a very crowded city. Though I hated it but later I used to go to crowded parts of the city to have fun. Girls are beautiful and it is easy to befriend them. I visited the Kolkata Kali Temple at Kalighat Metro station. It is small idol of goddess Kali but the temple is very powerful. I also visited Dakshineshwar temple and Vivekananda Ashram. Kolkota is a historic place and you can have lot of fun sightseeing. West Bengal is famous for Royal Bengal Tigers. Kolkata is a different world. It is like going to a New country. Memories of Kolkata makes me nostalgic. I want to go there again. | ||
