Relief During Floods When Cyclone Ogni played havoc in 2006, the Trust distributed 5-kg of rice to 38,494 affected people in Krishna and Guntur districts. In July 2007, 5-kg of rice was distributed to 32,000 flood-affected people of Kurnool and Prakasam districts floods and medical aid was given to 7,000 people. Medical aid was organized in Krishna, Adilabad and East Godavari districts on August 11 and 26, 2008. Blankets Distribution 2,00,000 blankets were given to students of Social Welfare Hostels (for SCs, STs and BCs) during December 2007 and January 2008 to protect from winter cold. Medical Aid In Tribal Areas The Trust provided medical aid for 5000 villagers who were affected by the outbreak of viral fevers and malaria from November 30, 2007 to December 2, 2007 in tribal areas of Adilabad district. A financial aid of Rs 5000 was given to a family where one of their family members died because of the epidemic. The Trust could come to the rescue of 121 such families. Blood Bank NTR Memorial Trust Blood Bank is the first NGO-run blood bank in the country to get the accreditation of the National Accreditation Board for Hospital and Healthcare Providers (NABH). NABH is a constituent board of the Quality Council of India. It evaluates quality parameters, collection and processing of blood and the qualification of the staff employed by the Blood Bank. The blood bank provides blood free of cost to the poor and collects a nominal fee from others. Of the total blood provided by the bank so far, 30 per cent has been supplied to cancer and thalassemia patients. The blood bank has been serving 30,000 patients. The blood supplied by the Blood Bank is known to meet exacting global quality standards. Such standards have been maintained by using latest equipment and quality inputs. NTR Memorial Trust, living up to the expectations of the late N T Rama Rao, provides vocational training free of cost to youth under its Yuva Nirman programme in many villages of Andhra Pradesh. The Yuva Niraman programme has been inspired by the ideals of NTR who firmly believed that imparting skills was the only way of empowering people. The training is building bridge between academia and industry. NTR Trust provides vocational training free of cost to youth in the age group of 20 to 30 years. The Trust trains youth in computers, spoken English, tailoring, embroidery, fabric painting, etc. Among the other areas of vocational training are making of detergent powder, candles and incense sticks.
