I am not sure what gets qualifies under your definition of "hard sciences" but i can give quote 5 people right now whom i know personally. 2 are from Harvard and 3 from MIT. They have recently completed their Ph.d and perusing post doctorates (Not sure if that's the right word) in the same universities. And none of them are from IIT/IIM/IISc.
