I am not sure which charitra are you referring to..but the one written by Hemadpanth (who was a devotee of Baba, and lived during his times) says that no body knows how and where he was born. Raja , what you were said are partially right except for the fact that he is Born Muslim and later Hindu ... Sai baba charithra lo idhi okka story matrame ... Inko story he was just seen in the streets of shiridi and many more stories are there ... There is no confirmation about his birth details and all that stuff and Baba also never told that he is Hindu or muslim... Migatha anni spot on | ||

maa father Sai Baba devotee!!! charitra chavadagaa konni vishayaalu naaku chepparu, appatlo!!! 1) He was actually born a "dudekula" muslim. He was fourth or fifth child of a widowed lady. He was actually a cow-herds man. 2) oka roju alaane aavulu kaastu unte, he found some hindu swami taking penance. This little kid just went and sat in front of him. The Swami opened his eyes after a while and saw innocence in this kid. 3) from that day on, it seems, the swami continued performing penance by looking into this kid's eyes. It's a general story that, that is how Sai Baba attained divinity. 4) He moved away from his family, no one actually knew their whereabouts but he did let his devotees know at a later date. 5) He was true secular by heart. He never preached "Allah-ho-Akbar" and instead praised only "Allah". "Allah sabka maalik", "Allah bhala karegaa" were his common ways of granting wishes. 6) He used to earn his bread by begging in the streets of shirdi, a tiny village in those days. The villagers never believed him until one day a little boy saw the Baba pulling out his intestines and cleansing them near a pond. The little boy was the first devotee, as per how the story goes. 7) He is first ever scientifically recorded Holy Person, and the British were amazed to know about him. How could a common-man attain divinity, was something they could not acknowledge. 8) He was an avid smoker of the hukka. A tiny pire of burning flames, which doesn't go off even to this day without any supply of fuel, inside his abode was fondly called Dwarka Maayi. 9) He did really give up his body and returned after three days, his body never decayed during that time. His claim was that, he was informed that it wasn't his time. Chronologically, pretty much during the same time, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa passed away. 10) He never rejected any offerings his devotees gave him, nor did he demand any. He only used to say, with good faith, if you grant Rs 2 to any beggar on the streets, consider that as my offering. | ||

According to Saibaba Satcharitra written by a person who lived at that time, no body knows if Baba was a Muslim, or Hindu. No body knows who were his parents, or family. He encouraged some customs of both religions, was a non-vegetarian. He used to say "Allah Malik" always but was celebrating Hindu festivals, taking aarthi.
