Appudu Chennai consulate ki call chesthe timings chepparu, eppudu ravacho notorize cheyyataniki. Worth calling up the consulate and ask when the notory is available. I am guessing it would suffice for IRS..

babais,

recently while iling income tax returns I had filed for W7 for my paretns to get tax id as I was claiming them as my dependents in tax return.

Parents ar ein india right now. So we got the passport copies attested by local gazetted offciers.

We got a query on the W7 application. They say attestation is not valid and asked to do the followign and resumbit passport copy as below.

"Get notarized by foreign notary and attach the an Apostille to the notarized docuemnt as outlined by the HAgue convention"

Please let me know if anyone has done this or if anyone give some pointers. what is apostille etc
