Seer hacked to death in Puri 3 Jun 2009, 0155 hrs IST, TNN Print Email Discuss Share Save Comment Text: PURI: The temple town of Orissa woke up on Tuesday to the gory murder of a seer by three assailants sending shockwaves among sadhus and residents. The seer, identified by cops as Ramacharan Dasji Maharaj, the mahant of Mauni Baba ashram, was hacked to death with lethal weapons in Siddha Mahabir area of the town. ‘‘The mahant had injuries on several parts of his body. He died in the hospital,’’ inspector-in-charge of Kumbharapada police station S K Mishra said. ‘‘The incident took place around 5.30am on Tuesday. The miscreants killed the mahant by chasing him outside the ashram,’’ Mishra added. Police said the seer fell prey to old enmity. ‘‘The miscreants had made a bid on his life in 2007. The goons had demanded money from the mahant. They were arrested then. Our investigation revealed that the same persons were involved in Tuesday’s attack. We have identified them and they will be arrested soon,’’ the officer said. }} |
