Simba:

Does it apply for PIO too? I renewed by kid's US passport recently. Do I need to update that information in her PIO card?

I found the answer. From India Consulate website (NYC).

http://www.indiacgny.org/php/showContent.php?linkid=179

Validity of PIO Card
A PIO Card shall be valid for a period of fifteen years from the date of issue subject to the validity of the passport of the applicant. In other words, the PIO card shall be valid only if the passport held by the individual is valid on a particular date.

To endorse new passport No. on PIO card
To endorse new passport number, both passports and PIO card in original are required. There is no form if applied at the counter. If applied by mail, please add a request letter and return mailing charges (US$ 20/- by money order or certified check).

Idle Thammud,

I went for PIO for my kids. It is better and you can stay there for more than 6 months also without police verification etc.

But if you are also a acitizen then you can apply OCI directly.

If you are not yet a citizen, then first go for PIO for kids and later when you becaome citizen of US then change their status to OCI which just $25.

Idle_yzag mama

Better go with OCI card...it is like india green card...if you stay more than 2 years continuously with OCI, you will be eligible to take the Indian citizenship.....and the fee is $285.00 which is equal to PIO fee. you no need to report to police station every six months....with VISA and POI you have to report to police station....
