Mumbai, May 25:- In a sensational daylight dacoity, at least three armed robbers barged into Air India's cargo complex near the domestic airport here Monday, killed a security guard and escaped with 145 kg of gold and silver worth an estimated Rs.200 million (Rs.20 crore). The dacoits armed with guns and revolvers barged into the high security zone at about 11.30 a.m. and attacked security guard S. Bhosle with some sharp-edged weapons when he attempted to stop them, an Air India spokesperson said. The security guard - an AI staffer - succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in a hospital, the spokesperson said. Officials of Pidilite Industries were booking six packets of gold and silver coins, weighing 145 kg in all at the cargo complex. The consignment, which included 98 kg gold and 47 kg silver, was bound for Hyderabad. According to police, the company officials were in the process of screening the packets when the armed robbers barged in, threatened the security personnel and fled with four packets. They got into a waiting getaway car and disappeared from the scene within minutes. "We have put up road blocks all over the city and alerted security staff at all exit points to be on the lookout for the culprits," the police official said. The police, however, had no clue about the people involved in the dacoity which has sent shockwaves in the airport security apparatus. An official said security measures have been further tightened on all the approach routes to the airport, the passenger terminals, the cargo complex, and all other airport buildings in Santacruz and Sahar side of the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport.
