Hey:Oh yeah, and commit or quit. As long as you sit there thinking maybe you should throw in the towel you'll never see what you need to see. That is not a winning attitude. Honestly. In 1066 Alexander the Great (I believe) when his troops landed on the coast of Brittain, proptly burnt all of their ships to the ground. His message was simple. Either you fight and win, or you die trying.

I am 100% serious about this. Success involves a certain mindset, and as long as you see yourself as a "wannabe" and tell the world that you're a "wannabe" then that is what you will remain. Next, examine your frustration. It might feel like the worst emotion at the current time but it is the most helpful. What are you REALLY frustrated about? It's probably got nothing to do with the trading. Dig a little deeper. You'll be amazed. I have certainly been where you are. There was a time when I thought my knuckles would never heal from all the wall pounding I was doing. What saved me? Certainly not a new indicator or new method or new way of looking at things. It was acceptance and emotional control. It was letting go and realizing that I wasn't trading the market, I was trading myself. My own fears, desires, needs, wants. In short, I wasn't in "the now", I was trading somewhere out in my own future. Do you keep a journal of your trades? Do you keep a journal of your thoughts about those trades? Do you print charts of your trades, before and after. That's where the answer lies. I am assuming that not ALL of your trades are losers. What is different about the trades that do work out? What is the same about the trades that don't work out? Work very hard to determine what your favorite time frame is, what your favorite trade is and your favorite holding period. When we look outisde of ourselves for those answers we start trading against the market. When we look inside of ourselves we realize that we are the market. I would also suggest reading Mark Douglas' Trading In The Zone. Here are his 5 truths of trading: 1. Anything can happen 2. You don't need to know what is going to happen next in order to make money 3. There is a random distribution between wins and losses for any given set of variables that define an edge 4. An edge is nothing more than an indication of a higher probability of one thing happening over another 5. Every moment in the market is unique. Be sure to know your edge. Be sure to know yourself. Be sure to know how you execute your edge best. Be sure to think in terms of probabilities. And be sure to never predict what the market is going to do. And relax! Nothing ever comes when you want it too much. Enjoy the process. This isn't the lottery. It's a vocation, an art, a business, a way of challenging yourself to become the best that you can become. The next time you find yourself becoming frustrated and angry because the market didn't give you what you want, imagine another trader asking YOU to lose just so he could win. Would you give him what he wants? of course not. Oh yeah, and commit or quit. And stop staring at charts for hours. Go stare in the mirror instead. Better yet, go outside, be active, have fun, engage the real world. More ideas about trading have come to while I was surfing or mountain biking or having fun at a club than have ever come while staring at charts. Trust me, if you've been doing this for a couple years you already know all that charts are going to tell you. If you're willing, please post a couple charts of your recent trades. Tell us where you entered, where you exited and why. And good luck. It has taken many great traders many years and many accounts to do what you are attempting to do. You can find their stories in The Market Wizards. "A successful person is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks that others throw at him or her" |

Hey guys! I was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice!? I’ve been watching and trading the markets (mostly watching) for over 2 years now, and I just don’t seem to be getting very far... I spend hours and hours and hours!! Everyday reading charting trading (demo and live). It’s pretty much all I do and think about... I live in Australia so I watch the assie market but a lot of the time I stay up and watch the U.S market also... Over the past few months I’ve been day trading the forex markets in particular, and for the first few weeks I was doing really well but the last couple moths it seems id be better off drawing trades out of a hat. I mostly trade breakouts but I also look at fib, indicator divergences, pivot points and pretty much everything else.. I just seem to be spending so much time and going nowhere... it takes up so much of my time and energy that it barely feels worth it. I’m only 23 but seriously considering throwing in the towel. I thought with all the hours I put in I would at least be making small gains or breaking even. I know and have heard that it takes a long time to be successful but I was wondering if anyone here has felt like this before and might have an idea of what I am doing wrong. I’ve wanted to be a trader ever since early high school I really hate to giving up and not following through with things so I’m really hoping you guys can steer me in the right direction. Thanks so much!!! "A successful person is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks that others throw at him or her" |
