The actor was made to stand for eight hours in a river By Parag Maniar and Bharati Dubey Posted On Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 02:15:40 AM Playing Raavana for Mani Ratnam has not been easy for Abhishek Bachchan. Mani, it seems, has been an absolute task master on the sets of Raavana being shot in the jungles of Kerala. A unit member revealed, “Abhishek’s character demands absolute discipline and Mani has seen to it that Abhishek maintains that discipline. Besides a strict dietary regimen and a daily dose of rigorous exercise, Mani has also made Abhishek practice rock climbing. Since most of Raavana has been shot in the deep jungles of Kerala, Abhishek had to adapt to extreme weather conditions and face the extreme chill of the jungle bare-chested wearing just a loin cloth.” As if this was not enough, to shoot for the scenes in a river Mani made Abhishek stand and walk in the water for hours for several days before the actual scene was shot. The day the scene was being shot, Mani did not allow Abhishek to step out of the water even once. Our source said, “Abhishek stood in the water for eight hours continuously till the shot was okayed by Mani, who wanted to keep the somber mood of the shot intact. Abhishek has not only lost a lot of weight for Raavana, he has also cropped his hair very short.” Apparently, Aishwarya Rai has been ribbing Mani that he made her husband put on about 15 kgs for his character in Guru and now he is making him slog to get it off. |
