True_indian,
I just finished reading 'Interpreter of maladies' by Jhumpa Lahiri - a collection of short stories..

Not earth-shattering but pretty good.I did not perceive any condescension or judgemental air in her chronicles of life INdian- in India or abroad..I have not rea d Namesake - saw the movie and that was not criticising India eiter just highlighting the difference in cultures:-) so I am not sure which books gave you the feeling that she looks or talks down about India?

U are not far away from truth. Absolute thrash and nonsense is what she writes about indian cultural ethos. She has got no clue. All she does is gripe about how her parents forced her to identify indian roots within her and how she resented it...

proper pseudo intellectual...

Debut Book thone he got prestigious award ... ' Shocking Tale' of Indian Poverty is the concept

Plot INTERSTING GA VUNDHI, ee book sadavaali time chusukoni

the story of Balram Halwai, a village boy who becomes an entrepreneur through villainous means - aimed to highlight the needs of India's poor.

"It is a fact that for most of the poor people in India there are only two ways to go up - either through crime or through politics, which can be a variant of crime," Adiga, the fifth Indian-origin writer to win the prize, told the BBC.

"These people at the bottom have the same aspirations as the middle class - to make it in life, to become businessmen, to create business empires. They need to be given their legitimate needs - the schooling, the education, the health care - to achieve those dreams. If not, as I said, there are only two ways up: crime or politics

As u already knew ,Booker Prize Winning book by Aravind Adiga : "THE WHITE TIGER"

As usual mana desanni , mana vyavastha ni , mana problems ni baaga criticize chesinattunnadu book anthaa...no wonder it won the prestigious award

I too should start off by kissing some god's arse.

Which god's arse, though? There are so many choices.

See, the Muslims have one god.

The Christians have three gods.

And we Hindus have 36,000,000 gods.

Making a grand total of 36,000,004 divine arses for me to choose from.
