you are mixing things up. // you are mixing up the things. Subcontinent got flat piches does not mean easy for batting. Flat piches mean they are not easy for fast bowlers but are good spin bowlers. So if you want to score runs in Subcontinent you still have to be a very good batsmen against spin and also reverse swing. Tendulkar even Dravid and Laxman got better averages in Overseas than in India. what does that mean???? | ||

Lara and Tendulkar played against each other 16 times in their career. tendulkar got 57 average, Lara got 33 average when they played together in same test matches playing on the same grounds at the same time. out of 16 , 13 are played in west Indies which are LARA'S home turf. I agree now lot of players got above 50 average but they are all good players Like Ponting, hayden, Hussey, Sangakkara, Jayawardane, Chandepaul, kallis, Dravid, tendulkar all are very good players. I have a lot of respect for Sarwan and I have included him, if you can see. Coming to Chanderpaul, I feel he a batsmen, who doesn't have the minimum technique and cross-bats a lot. If you feel, he is better than Lara and WI team doesn't miss Lara anymore due to the redemption of Chanderpaul, good for you. Lara is matchless, when it comes to WI cricket. period!!! We indian don't actually have seen much demonistrating Lara aganist , so we are taking him granted , but if you see his match in his peak which he single handled won the test matches againt team like Aussies with 10th batsman who has record getting Ducks(Walsh had record Ducks). Ravi Shastri, Azhar, Kambli (in the 17 test he played, he has an avg of 54). Post - 1995 (after year '95) he had Dravid, Ganguly, Laxman (all three exceptionally good batsmen), Sehwag. Now .. lets see his stats .. From '89 (his debut) to 95 (before the series where Dravid and Ganguly made their debut) .. he played 38 test matches .. with 55 innings having 7 undefeated innings to score 2483 runs at an average of 51.73. From 96 to yesterday .. he played 114 matches .. with 192 innings having 18 undefeated innings to score 9544 runs at an average of 54.85 per innings. Now in the period when he had excellent people to share his burden, his average shot up by 3+ points. Meaning, Sachin had a 'good team' which contributed to his success. Ofcourse, every other player also drew a lot from the companion ship of Sachin. While, if we consider the team in which Lara played, mostly Lara was the guy who gave confidence to people around and inturn scored a staggering 18.91% of the total runs by his team during those matches. Sachin scored a good 15.24% of the total runs of India during the 152 matches he played for India. Though 15.24 isn't less, it is less when we consider Lara's 18.91%. Coming to the burden of expectations of a billion people, once Ian Chappel in his commentary said, Sachin Tendulkar's success has a large share of the media(fueled by a billion strong country!!!), as much as 25%. I remember a time when Lara was batting like fire and reached a 100 in Australia, he didn't find audience applauding his effort much. For sachin, it is vice-versa, where ever he bats, its almost a home ground atmosphere with atleast 50% of audience as Indians and the immense applause he gets for even a boundary! Now that kind of support for a player is a moral strength and doesn't make him feel like batting in an alien land! Finally, as sidhu once said, statistics are like bikinis, what they reveal is tantalizing, but what they hide is crucial !!! Lara is slightly ahead of tendulkar in test matches. Tendulkar miles ahead of Lara in one-dayers. India won lot of matches due to Tendulkar Bowling also. As a whole package Tendulkar is ahead of Lara as a cricketer. tendulkar scored more runs, more centuries, got more average overseas than at home, that shows the tremandous pressure he is feeling at home. When Tendulkar came to indian team in 1989 India's position in world cricket is like West Indies position Today. Now India is ruling world cricket, I think Tendulkar played a big part in that. | ||

He went to to south africa as a captain....they white washed westindies5-0 He comes back to westindies....and who they face....the mighty aussies.... In the first test they bowl out westindies for less than 100....there was severe uprorar against the team asking for laras head.... One Genious(Shane Warne) put Tendulkar and Lara in 1 and 2 positions. I think there is very good reason behind that which we dont know. Shane Warnes top 3 are. Tendulkar : You have to watch India in India truly to appreciate the pressure that Sachin Tendulkar is under every time he bats. Outside grounds, people wait until he goes in before paying to enter. They seem to want a wicket to fall even though it is their own side that will suffer. This is cricket as Sachin has known it since the age of 16. He grew up under incredible weight of expectation and never buckled once – not under poor umpiring decisions or anything else. I place him very slightly ahead of Lara because I found him slightly tougher mentally. It is such a close call, but here is an example of what I mean: in Australia in 2003-04 he was worried about getting out cover driving so he decided to cut out the shot. I saw the wagon wheel for his next innings: he scored 248 without a single cover drive. Like Lara, he has scored runs all over the world. I have seen him run down the pitch and hit Glenn McGrath over the top for six, and I have seen him hit me for six against the spin going around the wicket. I have been lucky to get to know him off the field as well. He is quiet and humble. A great player and a Lara: Whether you played with him or against him, you were in awe of Brian Charles Lara. I loved his strut, his swagger and his ability to hit four after four with his high backlift and incredible placement.
