Govt is going to buy financial stocks ani sadhiva...lets c >> Well,govt is going to inject capital into troubled banks and take equity stakes.Not sure how that would be received.I think this news first came on Thursday and markets sold off. Allocating new equity for the govt dilutes the stakes of the existing shareholders.But again it depends on how distressed a bank is. To me asking banks to shrink their balance sheets by selling assets sounds good.And that's what the $700 billion package is going to do by buying bad assets from the banks.But govt shud pay above mkt prices for those assets and instead ask banks to share the profits later. Neel Kashkari,a former Goldman/Wharton alum is in-charge of buying troubled assets from banks. | ||
