should we even move forward or just loose the 20K earnest and wait for an year or two before we even think of a house here/// If I were you I will do this. Since you have 4-5 months time, I will wait for another 4-5 months. If the situation becomes worse and there is no improvement even after New President takes over, I will get out of mortgage, will try to get as much as I can from the 20K which I paid. Things to consider. 1. How is your city for jobs ? Many jobs?? 2. What is yours/your wifes skill set, Is there a demand for that skill set always??? 3. Are your jobs permanent??? how are your companies doing??? Health Insurance, Auto Insurance for that matter any Insurance compnay is good. |

3t3, I am not sure what your very long term plan for life in this country is ..I mean like 20 years from now..etc. But if you are not going to live in that house for the next 10/15 years or so..I would suggest..do not waste that money on it.. Because Housing corrections are not V shaped corrections like Stock corrections..they at least take 2/3 years to bottom out and then stay there for long before they start bouncing back.. You also would know by now that Texas housing prices do not increase/decrease dramatically like in NJ/CA.. Rest mee ignition..good luck |

650K in austin is way too much. The problem is, when you try to sell this house, in those type of cities, your buyers will be very limited. If i were you, i will continue to stay in apartment and ADD THOSE 20K TO ALREADY LOST MONEY IN STOCK MARKETS |

Austin lo 650K illu..which is double the price of most of the Newly built houses in Texas..so I am sure you were targeting the top of the line product in the best areas..anyway I am sure you would have done your due diligence based on your situation at that time.. When a Recession is staring at the face of the Economy and housing prices are bottoming out...I would prefer to have atleast 6 months of expenses (i mean living expenses including groceries to mortgage) handy..before making any big ticket purchases...rest mee ignition.. |

Guys, I know there are many experts here: Here is my situation. Husband, Wife working. Lost heavily in stocks Signed for a home in a good school district for 650K, paid good amount as earnest money, (20K). Home will be ready in next 4 -5 months. With the current lending policy, we have to do 20% down.. that would leave us with almost no savings as buffer. If the jobs are intact, there wont be issue to pay mortgage. The price value of the house is pretty much at peak in that neighborhood. We have sales for 650K for 6-7 year old homes but with good views. The one we signed has no view but it is new construction. In this current situation, should we even move forward or just loose the 20K earnest and wait for an year or two before we even think of a house here. Please suggest. |
