I agree with TT.

Mental: What you are saying is right but not for exit polls. After voting, how does this matter? Pakkanodu emanukunnaa manam vote eshnanka no turning back kadaa? You voted only after knowing what all you said ie, perception of others, good/bad of a party, their manifesto etc..
In this db, there's always someone watching you!!

Telugu times,
there is no harm on knowing how others view the same issue. a lot of the times, you cannot view an issue in all the directions, a lot of the times the perception of others, helps you make better decisions. how do you know whether the choice you make is a good one until you contemplate it, debate it, even within yourself. when you think about an issue, before making a decision do you not weigh out the various issues, knowing what others think, and why others think the way they are thinking might add to your view too. this lack of what happens outside your world is a big hindrance to political intelligence in india. ppl who make decisions based on caste, creed or any other similarity do not realize that if they vote for some body, though good for them might happen for them, might actually turn bad for somebody else. its just for knowledge, its for training yourself with the perception with the rest of the world. i am not saying the rest of the world is right, but its gives you an idea of where you stand.

Telugu_times:

a voter should worry about a candidate and that party's manifesto.

Exactly my point..I was so pissed off the last time (2004) to see these Exit Polls beemari..slowly sneaking into India..

the exit poll, does provide some information as to how the party as a whole is performing, and what the perception from different areas is? this is good for voters who base their votes on abit of analysis. >>>

why should a voter worry about other things/other people?
a voter should worry about a candidate and that party's manifesto.

i feel instead of banning exit polls, the election commision should pick one organization(may be based on tender system or by creating a group by picking different ppl from different locations) for each election. the exit poll, does provide some information as to how the party as a whole is performing, and what the perception from different areas is? this is good for voters who base their votes on abit of analysis.

Rajusk:

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday decided to restrain publication of exit polls till the last phase of elections is over. Many political parties and the Election Commission have been demanding a ban on exit polls till the last vote was cast. They are of the view that exit polls influence the voters and can also be easily "manipulated". The Representation of People Act of 1951will be amended to enforce the ban. The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on Wednesday.
