Reception

Jalsa is the most widely released south Indian film ever with over 1000 screens worldwide on the opening day.[2] The film will release in the US with 18 prints.[3] Though many feel that there is no relation between the films title and the story, but many stated that the film's title "Jalsa(Mean Fun or Enjoy)" is in par with the mood of the film as it runs mostly on entertainment only.{ A small Correction here... JALSA is the name of the house where SanjaySahu lives in the movie with his friends} Despite mixed reviews and a 'divide talk' on the first day, the movie witnessed the best ever openings for a telugu film. The movie grossed Rs 7,67,00,000 ($1.89 million USD) on its first day itself .[4] The film grossed Rs. 22 crores ($5.2 million USD)in its opening week[5], the highest opening ever for a Telugu film. Boxofficemojo.com ranked this film in 9th position amongst all the films that released worldwide that week, which is cited as a great achievement for a regional film [6]. The film continued its dream run during the second week at the boxoffice by grossing 32 crores in 14 days. It maintained its place in the World Top 20 in its second week, by grossing about $2 million according to BoxOfficeMojo[7] [8]

It is the second Telugu film which had successfully completed 50 days in 282 centres, which is a record by itself. The total gross of the film in 50 days collected over Rs 42 crore. One more interesting point to be noted here is that ‘Jalsa’ is the only telgu film which had completed 50 days successfully in 21 centres in Krishna district alone. Movie succesfully completed 100 days in 25 theaters. As the movie was released in 1000 theaters, and splendid opening collections showed that most of the viewers saw the movie during the initial weeks itself. On the whole, releasing a movie across a massive number of theatres (1000 in this case) turns out to be a good succes formula. The total gross of the film is 68 crores and the gross in abroad was 34 crores

[edit] Soundtrack

The soundtrack of the film was launched on February 29, 2008. The audio rights were sold to Aditya Music for 90 lakhs[9] [10], the highest for a Telugu film ever in the recent times.[11] The music got very good reviews from websites[12] [13] [14] and an excellent response from the public itself.[15] The music has been topping the

For showing his martial arts talent in movie Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi Andhra Pradesh's Ex-Chief minister Nara Chandra Babu Naidu entitled him the name 'Pawan' by which be became popular in the Telugu film industry. Pawan's second movie Gokulamlo Sita failed at box-office but his next movie Suswagatham was fared well. He tasted his first success with Tholi Prema (1998), which set standards in the industry and became a paradigm for youth oriented films. The movie marked a milestone Pawan's career and he was recognised by the audiences. His next two flicks Thammudu and Badri were a blockbusters. Kushi (2001), broke box office records as it went on to gross 20 crores.

Pawan made his directional debut with Johnny, for which he travelled to Japan to get trained in martial art Akido. Renu Desai and himself cast as lead actors, the film was a disaster at the boxoffice. Gudumba Shankar (2001), for which Pawan contributed screenplay and other artistic skills was seen as a good family entertainer despite not living upto the box office expectations. Balu (2005) by Vyjayanthi Films didn't fare well either. His next movie Bangaram hit too. Annavaram (2006) fared better than his previous two.

Jalsa (2008), is the most widely released south Indian picture ever (approximately 1000 theatres worldwide). It is the first film in telugu to collect more than 42 crores in first fifty days of its release.Jalsa also completed 50 days in 282 centres and celebrated 100 days in 25 centers . [3].But the movie is not up to the Hype it created, and not in the Trivikram's Style of Movie.
