Sorry, had to go out...hope it's useful to our DBers...I will explain briefly the problems I faced... If you are a right hand hitter, you take 3 step or 4 step approach--R L R L steps... a) Put right leg forward first, then left, turn 45 dgrees to your right with right foot, then bring the left foot...bend down with your hands facing down and towards back...lift your self and be in the air... b) Lift the left hand to point to the direction you want to hit the ball in to opponent's court and bring the right hand back near the ear...match the top of the ball with fingers,half palm nearer to the fingers and hit with half palm and heel of the hand...to the opponenent's court... This is what is taught by coaches and suggested by practising players traditionally...and it looks so simple, we feel anyone can spike, but the reality is one slight mistake in approach and timing will cost your team a point...also it's often told that approach is evrerything which I beleived is the case for the last 3 years... Also it's told to hit the ball against the wall to learn it... there are variations in the arm swing such as plain snap, bow & arrow etc... None of the tips worked for me and I was hopping my last 2 steps on to the ground and losing momentum...I knew this and at the clinic the guy told me so and he could not correct me and forums did not help... My spike success is only 50% and rest of the times either I was hitting out of the court or in to the net or the spike is soft...so obsessed with this spike that I kept on practising every time I learnt a new tip, I felt I got the holy grail of the spike... To add further confusion...some say it's approach, few say it's hip rotation at the 3rd step, and others say it's all in the snap and swing... There are so many intricacies in the mechanics I read...I can;t put them all here... At last, there was one tip that did wonders for me...it's about the snap when you are in the air... He said one should hit the ball as though he is targeting his own foot...that's it...Eureka!! Eureka!! happy spiking... Contrast this one with the traditional suggestion of hitting the ball deep in to opponent's court...you will understand what I am talking about... >>> apaardham chesu kunnaa gaani, OM kurrodu shaana better! . | ||

When you are about to hit the ball, try to bend 4 fingers slightly forward, that keeps the ball from going out. Ofcourse, jump is very important. You should jump in the right moment. | ||
