I have been working in the Investment Banking industry for almost 8 years and I have friends who have been working in the same Industry for almost 20 years.. If you continue working at Goldman Sachs..you will probably have the same kind of working hours (of course they do compensate well)..but at some point..we need a life too..so may be in the future you should go to some place (some other Investment Bank) where there is some scope for exploring other parts of life ..other than work/eat/sleep | ||

I never discuss it all....infact last week I took 2 days off...just to sleep properly.....it wrks for me...as I work....16 hr days 7 days a week...major part...and my boss knows it...so vacation ilanti ibandhulu levu........she always asks me to take it easy....that ways I find this job easy.....but lack of a social life is at times difficult....I cant make frnds with every one....girls forget it...I tend to feel weak when I am in the company of a woman...and u r right its the ego...as simple as that | ||

Thanks andi...yeah I know that and inching my way...but u know that girl is in my head...sort of in my nerves still...and the feeling that she is with some one else...just rips my head apart...I intially tried fighting it as the craving for sex as my hormones were ready for that...but that resistance failed miserably...infact I cant even call her a name....its as though I want to inflict all the pain and blame onto me and she shud be scar free........ On the professional front..I would suggest ..try to get familiar with the business..the earlier the better..rest nee eignatha.. On the personal front..you should probably seriously try Yoga ..not the commercial Western version..but the traditional one..like the one Ramdev teaches..he constantly tells that some of those Asanas take away depression..if you need a DVD copy..I can make it and give it to you.. As someone already stated..you are academically a gifted person..don't fritter away that advantage..that you have over others..for nothing...we wish better things for you in life..Good Luck | ||

I am outta acads now...I work for Goldman Sachs...work related prssures seldom effect me...I sort of relish them...coz they divert my attention..... The biggest problem is that I am unable to get out of the inferiority complex that started 3 yeras ago.... Nothing personal abt it...atleast none of u are infront of me.... .....but yeah I am fighting it....I teach on weekends...to black kids at a college here.... I plan to get married as soon as possible...but I am not sure if I am ready and matured for a responsibilty at 25...I am still contemplating it.....lets see what happens | ||

broke ...actually was dumped by a girl...3 yrs back...and had been on a downward spiral ever since....suffered the first year with intense inferiority complex and the side effect of that was intense hatred of women for abt 6 months....but came out of it...in general...now I feel very uncomfortable in presence of women...but I dont hate anyone though....I spend most of my time lonely....mostly reading books...very minimal social life but for DB here....this is my only social activity of sorts | ||

Quantummorphed Bedar , Majority of people go throught that kind of phase that you just described and one of the main reason is that , a mundane routine that sets in our lifestyle. The most effective way to get rid of those feelings is just that take some time off and do something you wont normally do.. go Hike or go to amusement park and taking some of the rides there might give you the adrenalin rush. | ||

If u are referring to physical work outs....well I have always been a sports guy of sorts....I played state level TT for 2 years....Was IITM cricket opener for 4 yrs..I played at the inter IVY TT championships at Yale last year...and currently I run abt 3 miles a day.... I am a trained aikido practitioner...had learnt it for 3 years..... Came out of a severe depression 2 years back....lost 12 kgs in a month and was near ambulatory condition at that point....but fought my way back...but still suffer with bouts of intense depression even today...which generally last between 12 hrs to 7 days | ||

This is a plea to everyone out there ...who feels depressed on a frequent basis...Living alone in a different country is very stressful for a lot of people...and depression can sneak up on people without their realising it.Over the last 2 years, I have seen too many DBers who show depressive symptoms ...  Though getting professional help is needed, it is a step that most Indians find difficult to take...If you have ever had serious suicidal thoughts its time to take it seriously and visit the doctor... For milder depression, there are some things you can do to make yourself feel better... 1. Pranayama - There are studies that show that Pranayama is as effective as antidepressants and is effective in reducing depression... This works miracles...bulldozed my friends into it and it helped both of them immensely - though most of the research is on Sudarshan Kriya Yoga(SKY) , one of the friends used regular pranayama classes with very good results - SKY is a sequence of different pranayamas with postures.The US has now commissioned studies to evaluate the efficacy as an alternative treatment for depression. http://linkinghub.elsevier.com/retrieve/pii/S016503279900079 8 2. Pune, Aug 8 (IANS) Expressing profound grief over the suicide of software engineer Sandeep Shelke employed with them and extolling his excellent track record, IT company Persistent Systems management Friday clarified that the young professional never complained about work pressure, the reason he gave out for taking the extreme step. "Sandeep never mentioned about work pressure; the option of transfer to some other project, available to any executive in the company, was open to him,' Persistent senior vice president (HR) Kishor Bhalerao told IANS about the software engineer who ended his life Wednesday by jumping from the company building's seventh floor. In an SMS sent to his brother half an hour before committing suicide, Sandeep had said he was resorting to the desperate act as he was unable to cope with severe work pressure. In a hand-written suicide note he had left in his pocket, the promising 26-year-old software engineer had given the same reason for his suicide. "Our work culture, which revolves around good 'work life balance', is our unique selling point (USP)," Bhalerao said, adding that employees' health, both physical and mental, being crucially important to them, they run regular yoga classes for them. The company also has a full time physician-counsellor who visits all departments of the organisation. Bhalerao also talked about the company's skip-level meeting system where an employee can discuss his situation with higher ups without the immediate boss knowing about it. "This helps the organisation to know about the negative aspects of its working apart from sorting out the aggrieved employee's problem,' he said. Pointing out that the matter was sub-judice, Bhalerao said everyone handled stress and strain differently. Employed with Persistent Systems since 2003, Shelke was sponsored by the company for a master's course from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, and sent to the US for a project from where he returned six months back. The news of the suicide came as a big surprise to the organization too especially because Wednesday, the day of the incident, the employees celebrated the 'tradition day' to mark which, all employees, including Shelke, came dressed in traditional attire - Kurta Pajama.
