NBKFAN Reservation debate- I will stay out of that … But coming to your original question … Merit – In most cases is just a measure of a person ’ s test taking ability on a particular day … I have a brilliant cousin, topped thru school, won science fairs and got a 40000 rank on EAMCET  Test taking ability has many influencing factors , IQ, effort /hardwork , environment, coaching, psychology and a bunch of other things including luck IQ – Is a function of genes and enviroment.. Not everyone is born equal but neither are they raised equal … there are studies that show that a child raised in a better environment performs better in IQ tests … so social and parental education back ground have a huge impact on IQ. Interestingly IQ has been increasing on an average of 3 points a decade across most soc ieties (the much discussed Flynn effect ) …  this could be indicative of a progressive evolution in the genes or a function of the increasing challenges advanced society is offering children and/or that they are more trained to take IQ tests ? I am pretty sure there is data somewhere that says children not offered these challenges will be disadvantaged in their IQ developent. Sachin, I can understand your frustration at reservations and not being able to compete under same standards......but please take a view on the other side before coming to conclusions..... Please look at pakistan and other places where elite is allowed to rule with out opportunities for downtrodden in the society.......it will lead to a degenrated society....... there are some fallacies in the reservation like creamy layer....other than that I think it helps the society in numerous ways.......thank reservations and other upliftment schemes that we dont have terrorist infected society.....that too considering 1+ billion population after missing out on industrial revolution and centuries of wealth plundering atrocities by various invaders.... think of the issue by putting urself in other person's shoes.......btw, why do you think caste stigma has gone down drastically in the past couple of decades......although caste favoritism is still in vogue....feudal caste system has definitely taken a back seat..... | ||

I read/heard some theories about einstein's brain. It was abnormal (only 15-25% of his brain was functional and rest was damaged but the location of the functional part was unique). Even today there are scientists experimenting with his brain. | ||
