 No, but our 2013 college recruits came from many diff universities e. Idaho, colorado etc. In any case, I have said this many a time , my motivator to stay in the US was the education system - and I have no intention to push my kids into a rote learning/coaching/grind that I stayed here to avoid
I see my son's classmates - kids from different races- exceptionally bright and hard working kids, working jobs alongside their school work and making top grades in school - frankly if they are even a couple hundred points below on the SAT , I think they are equal to if not better than many of the 'go thru the grind' high SAT scoring desi kids - so I don't really feel that asians are penalised Asian kids are protected so they have the time and money to devote to this pursuit of test prep and academics - not everyone does or want to and intellectual capability is measured by more than just test-taking ability Colleges want all kinds so they will select based on what they need in their community The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance; the wise grows it under his feet : James Oppenheim | ||

Anand garu ------------ bottom line is as median SAT score goes up for desis it is meaning less and less - the girl with perfect score got waitlisted at harvard - despite being a singer, dancer,pianist, student leader, debater and founder of a tutoring system for underprivileged.. ------------ This is so TRUE. Asians are kind of penalized for achieving higher SAT scores. The thinking is that Asians generally do much better than non-asians when it comes to SAT kind of tests, universities have higher SAT standard for asians to give affirmative opportunities for non-asians. The difference between asians and non-asians in SAT scores are 100 points or so, meaning the non-asian who scores 2000 in SAT has better chance of getting admitted than an asian with 2100+ SAT score given all other criteria same. | ||

Wow-in 8th grade is really good;) But otherwise perfect score has become more common now - a friend's daughter got 2400,two siblings in town got 2400, a cousin's daughter 2380 (in her first attempt), she was in some coaching class in SFO called the 2400 club When told about our cousin's daughter my son told us don't have such expectations from me-he did not want to attend any coaching classes either - obviously the difference showed - he made 2200 - both hits in reading and writing - 700 each , full in math as expected. bottom line is as median SAT score goes up for desis it is meaning less and less - the girl with perfect score got waitlisted at harvard - despite being a singer, dancer,pianist, student leader, debater and founder of a tutoring system for underprivileged..the competitive landscape is changing..I relaxed with my older one letting him pick his interests, think after seeing these kids I am going to relax even more with my younger one - let them be kids when they can be One of our VPs is a grad from univ of Lousiana The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance; the wise grows it under his feet : James Oppenheim | ||

Chaala hopes unnayi ga  Best Univs don't do merit aid, they have great fin aid programs so unless you're dirt poor forget about free seat. Chaala decent unis have full ride scholarships. Hard to get those. The type of kids who get these are the same type of kids who would get into elite colleges. | ||
