In a report submitted to the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) on the May 5 street brawl, police wrote: "Ram Charan had sarcastically said that the duo were only good enough to drive the car in the night and not in the busy day-time traffic." In his report, Shanker Reddy, ACP, Banjara Hills, said the provocation enraged the two youths who got engaged in an altercation which later snowballed into a street fight, in which the duo were bashed up by the guards. The images of which were splashed in newspapers across the country, and the Zanzeer star later denied causing the provocation. According to police, Ram Charan's Aston Martin V8 Vantage was 'obstructed' near GVK Mall rotary by a Maruti Alto in which software engineers Phaneesh of Kondapur and Kalyan of Uppal were travelling. The techies, employees of Genpact, were heading to Punjagutta from Kondapur in Kalyan's Alto. Ram Charan Teja was furious with the techies for not giving him way despite honking several times. As soon as he got a small passage, the actor steered past the Alto and intercepted it near the rotary opposite GVK Mall, where actor's security guards also joined in. "There were exchanges of blows between them. At this juncture, security personnel of Chiranjeevi, who were nearby at the time of the incident, also joined in the melee and exchanged fist blows," the report in not so chaste English said, putting rest to all denials by the actor's family that the minister's bodyguards had nothing to do with the brawl. The police report also nailed the lie of Ram Charan's statement that the photograph showing him near the scene of brawl was morphed. "Ram Charan got down from the car and watched the incident from a distance by the side of the road in front of GVK house and left immediately," the report said. The report was submitted to the SHRC in response to a petition filed by S A Saleem, high court lawyer. The petitioner approached the commission on May 8 and blamed the Banjara Hills police for not booking a case against the young actor out of bias. However, the commission asked the police commissioner, Hyderabad to file a fresh report by August 28 as the ACP had been named as one of the accused in the petition. Curiously, in its report, the police played it safe by saying that both the parties indulged in the street brawl and, hence, the matter was not taken up as no complaint was filed. "The incident is purely a byproduct of exchange of free flow of words on account of self glorifying emotional status" said the report. Speaking on this case, the petitioner said that the report clearly proved the police department's indifferent approach to the case. "I named the ACP and police officials of Banjara Hills only for the reason that they were not following the right procedures and this report proved it," said Salim. "When they knew that physical altercation took place they should have sent the victims to medical examination and decide on taking cognizance based on the results. Then the Lok Adalat should decide what to do with the case. Here, the police officials seem to have behaved like a court and dismissed the case."
