It is an open secret that promoter of ABN Andhra Jyothy channel and Andhra Jyothy Telugu daily Vemuri Radhakrishna has been running his media house with a clear political agenda: of bringing Telugu Desam Party back to power and install its president N Chandrababu Naidu in the Chief Minister’s seat. And Naidu appears to be going blindly by the agenda set by Radhakrishna. However, according to political analysts, Radhakrishna’s strategy is doing more harm to Chandrababu Naidu than good. “In a way, the media baron has turned out to be a Bhasmasurudu for Naidu, as his strategy of running down the political rivals would only result in the rout of the TDP,” a media analyst observed. According to him, it was Radhakrishna who had advised Naidu to go in for an alliance with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi before 2009 elections by forming a Maha Kutami (Grand Alliance). While the TDP had allocated more than 50 seats to the TRS in the Telangana region, the AJ chief is understood to have poisoned the mind of the TDP president and arranged “B” forms to TDP rebels in more than 30 seats allotted to the TRS. Apparently, he told Naidu that the TRS would ditch the TDP in the latter’s seats. “Radhakrishna’s plan was to see that the TDP would get maximum number of seats and the TRS gets wiped out in the region. While the TRS votes helped the TDP to get 38 seats in Tealngana, the TDP votes did not get transferred to the TRS, as a result it could not get more than 10 seats. Had the TRS got 35-40 seats, it would have resulted in the defeat of the Congress party and Naidu could have come to power with the support of the TRS and other independents. So, Naidu lost a golden chance only due to Radhakrishna’s advice,” the media analyst said. Even now, Radhakrishna is following the same strategy of running down the TRS to prop up the TDP. But unfortunately, such tactics have only shown the TDP in a poor light and it is going to pay a heavy penalty in the next elections, says the analyst. |
