Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday said that the defeat of the JD-U candidate from Maharajganj in Lok Sabha by-election would have no adverse impact on the party's alliance with the BJP in the state. The result came as a shock to Kumar, who was reportedly contemplating breaking off with the BJP over the issue of the possibility of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi being projected as the NDA's prime ministerial candidate for 2014 general election. The RJD, which handed out a crushing defeat to the JD-U candidate, has been exerting pressure on Kumar to walk the talk and snap ties with the BJP. Moreover, with the BJP sweeping the by-election in Gujarat, the chances of Modi heading the BJP's poll committee for 2014 has only brightened. | ||

I think he is just trying to position himself as an equal to Modi, if BJP Wins and If PM Modi has to resign for some reason, Nitish wants to be the next in line for PM position. | ||
