Nenu UI Designer/Developer gaa work chesanu India lo vunnappudu. It was funny to see how my previous company did its business. Obviously they had two good products, they also got some investors. But they missed the core idea of product development, which is to prepare prototype with the idea and approach the clients, once you get them signed on the dotted line then start developing it. But that company never followed it, they went ahead and designed/developed the product in-house for 5 years, They even found some investers. And when they started approaching the prospective clients, everyone client looking for a customized product. We even approached MS, the deal didn't work out after 3 months of re-design/customizations  ... yes mama... we developed some of the ravishankar (AOL) related sites. srisri.org was completely developed by us. they provide us the design. We can work with indian designers to get the design and we take over and develop the site. I know some designers here, but indian based designers are better for indian markets. | ||

We developed other project with Struts and Weblogic. It was pain taking process. took us around 15 months get going later it took another 2 years to stabilize. Unless you have some company who is really really gone through many projects , you cannot take chance. I have seen at least 2 to 3 projects scraped after spending above 30 millions.. Platy.. I worked with couple of projects. One was developed in WebSphere Commerce suite which is highly customization and offers great future with wizard based configuration. Ledhu. We expect the company who is going to work on the project to provide recommendations as well. Only requirement we have is - Website to sell the products, the database where the product info can be stored, the admin package to maintain inventory and order management. In the Indian context only credit/debit ante panulu jaragavu, need to support Indian specific payment methods too - MoneyOrder, VPP, Cash on delivery etc. Finally, lot of folks are suggesting that we use some available IT solution and customize it - We don't have the skillset and time to do that. We are not outsourcing our product development. We are looking at outsourcing only the IT support we need - the eCommerce website and the database. Why would we outsource the most important part of our business - our products? We design our products and we manufacture them with the help of local factories. IT is not our area. It is not what we specialize in. So we don't want to spend effort and time on it. Instead we will channel that bandwidth into design better products for our customers. Product development, UI, logistics is key in ecommerce. I can understand logistics and payments mechanisms to be outsourced (like to a CCAvenues or a 3 PL provider). But product development or UI has to be in house. I have spent 7 years in the internet industry and know this business inside out. If you still want to go with a vendor for the site development or UI, you can start off with someone like Infibeam (buildabazaar) or eReasoning based in Hyderabad. eReasoning takes care of everything, from logistics to payment mechanisms etc. They are a one stop shop. Companies like Gitanjali Jewels, Videocon etc. Their platform is martjack.com. You can reach out to them and see if it works. I feel that if you want to start off with an asset light strategy, then you might want to check these out and then scale depending on your funding and customisation. A final note - as an investor, i would not invest in a company that outsources its product development. Unless you build the product and know it and can customise or scale it, it is unlikely that you will be able to mine the analytics that is going to be the key differentiator for the host of ecommerce websites out there. | ||

I am looking for a good software company who can help us set up an eCommerce portal for a company I am starting in a few more days. We do not have venture funding yet and so everything is coming from our pockets only. So cost is surely a matter of concern. This is what we are looking at: 1. Setting up the database 2. Preparing the UI - (eCommerce portal) 3. Streamlining the order management process 4. Every possible payment mechanism under the sun Please let me know if you have any pointers to good companies which do not charge a bomb. Doing it ourselves is out of question.
