y now, it's very clear that Gouravam isn't a dream debut for Allu Sirish. Both the critics and the film buffs have given thumbs down to the flick for it's slow pace narration and not so engaging presentation. The biggest shock for Mega family is the fact that Allu Sirish gained bad reviews for his poor acting skills. Though the debutante has worked on his look and physique, nothing much haven't been done in acting department. The only plus points are his dialogue delivery and diction. Sirish tried his best to prove something to the audience, but failed to impress on a whole. He needs to work on his expressions and the elements that the audience would expect from a South hero. The openings for Gouravam are good due to the huge fan base of Mega family, but the film mayn't enjoy their support in the long run. Over all, Gouravam willn't fetch any Gouravam for either Sirish or Mega Family. | ||

Gouravam Cast and crew Analysis: Sirish, younger brother of Telugu actor Allu Arjun, makes an impressive debut in Kollywood. He is credible in an emotion and action packed role. Yami Gautham of Hindi flick Vicki Donar fame looks beautiful and does her role well. However, she doesnât get anything challenging in her first outing in Tamil. Prakash Raj and Nasser have nothing much to do. Thamanâs back ground score is ok. Couple of his songs are hummable. After all, this is the first cinematic attempt to handle the sensitive topic of honour killings in a modern context. Given that the producer is Prakash Raj, the actor who has funded quite a few path breaking films, and that Radhamohan is the director, expectations over Gouravam have been extremely high. The duo deserves kudos for daring to tacklethe issue of honour killings. Radhamohan has tried to capitalize on the growing involvement of the youth in real life on such issues. Arjun (Allu Sirish) is on a mission to find out what happened to his engineering class mate Shanmugam who seems to have vanished without a trace from his village T Vennure, after eloping with Rajeshwari, daughter of Pasupathy (Prakahs Raj), an upper caste biggie in the village. Pasupathy and his son tell Arjun that their traditional pride is more important that raking up the dirt of his daughter's elopement and her current address, but Arjun is determined to solve the mystery. One section of the village is against the sleuths but Shanmugam's clan is their sole support in trying to find Shanmugam- even the police is prejudiced against the two. Pasupathy's son, spoiling for a fight, creates all kinds of problems, seen in many movies before. . Sirish responds by getting all the students from his engineering batch to camp in the village. The electronic media follows, and the entire nation watches on TV as 'Friends of Shanmugam' stay true to the mission, despite a petrol bomb attack. Another bonus for Sirish is Yami Gautham, who plays a lawyer's role, and is cast as union leader Nassar's daughter. Finally the mystery is unraveled in a very elementary fashion, without any adrenaline pumping rush, and this where the film is a bit of a let down. However, the director must be complimented for approaching the matter from the third person, rather than from the angle of one of the lovers or a family member . Perhaps this approach, has led too more of detailing of peripheral characters and less of emotional connect, giving the film a documentary feel. Prakash Raj as always lives and breathes the character, and it is amazing how many shades of grey he can bring to the table. For a debutant, Sirish passes muster. He is fine in the action scenes, but needs to tone up his facial expressions a bit. Yami does a neat job, as do the others. Thaman's music is ok, but predictable. In many places in the first half cinematographer Preetha kindles memories of director Bharatirajaa who took us all on a trip to rural Tamil Nadu through his films. In fact you cannot help but feel this is a Radhamohan who is also a bit of K Balachander, a tad of Bharatirajaa, a little more of the Balaji Sakthivel we saw in Kadhal. And the real Radhamohan, who is so good with his urban perspectives, comes through as a bit blurred. Through the 1990s Tamil cinema saw the release of a series of movies with caste appendages. Who can forget Chinna Gounder, Thevar Magan, Thevar Veettu Ponnu etc ? The upper -lower dynamics among other median castes have remained an eternal theme in celluloid, but this film has attempted to go a step further and explore honour killing as an evil that needs to be rooted out,. As such it is a must see movie. Only don't go expecting a Mozhi or an Abhiyum Naanum. Verdict : An 'Honourable' attempt Rating : 3/5 | ||

Producer Allu Aravind's third son, and heartthrob Allu Arjun's younger brother Allu Sirish, is making his debut as a hero through this movie, and pretty lady Yami Gautam is also debuting in Tamil! The movie opens to Sirish arriving at a village, on some official business. When he tries to return, his flight is delayed. While he looks to kill some time, he remembers that his friend Shanmugam stays nearby, and decides on visiting him! When Sirish visits the village, and enquires about his friend, he is told that he is no longer in the village, and that he eloped with the village headman Pasupathi's (Prakashraj) daughter. When Sirish enquires where the duo eloped to, he meets with stony silence, and just a few murmured whispers of Chennai. This leaves Sirish unconvinced, and when he returns to Chennai, he talks to his friend, and the duo decide to return to the village, to trace Shanmugam's whereabouts! At the village, Sirish comes into contact with a free spirited, society-conscious girl, a lawyer trainee (Yami Gautam). Nasser plays Yami's father. As the youngsters go about enquiring about their friend in the village, they receive dire threats from different quarters. Suspecting that something is amiss, Sirish contacts all his friends, and brings them down to the village, and all the youngsters stand up in protest, and hope the villagers reveal something about Shanmugam. Sirish comes across an autistic child, who speaks little, but expresses himself through some lovely, realistic drawings! Just as Sirish goes through some random drawings of the child, he comes across a drawing depicting a couple being killed, and graves being dug for them. Sirish and his friends dig up at a specific place, and come up with 2 skeletons. Pasupathi, his son Saravanan, and their whole family are gutted! When this case goes to court, Yami herself takes up the case, and when the hearing is in progress, a man surrenders himself to the Police, stating that he killed the duo for money and the girl's jewels! However, Sirish remembers the girl's sister-in-law telling him that she left back all her jewels before leaving home! Sirish finds that there's more than what meets the eye! He wants justice for his dead friend, and is willing to go to any lengths! But, what lengths does he really have to go? Who was actually responsible for the young couple's death? What does Pazhani (Pasupathi's right hand man) have on his mind, that is making him feel guilty? Is all as it seems to be? Watch Gouravam on the big screens to know it all! As is his norm, director Radha Mohan has taken a neat story, and presented it in the best way possible, tugging at your heartstrings along the way! He has cast all his favourite actors in the supporting roles, and they shine brightly! Allu Sirish leaves you wondering if he is indeed making his acting debut! He has given a wonderful performance! Yami Gautam is here to stay! She has essayed a flawless portrayal! Prakashraj is his usual, brilliant self! One does feel Nasser could have been utilised a little better! Cinematographer Preetha has done a good job, and the visuals of the countryside have been well captured! Thaman's music is good, and the 'Mannadacha Pandhu' song is haunting, and singer Gaana Bala needs a special mention for his rendering! Gouravam is an intense movie which throws to light a sensitive issue! A must watch from director Radha Mohan! |
