Pete_sampras:
Nice pics. As you noticed, the first two pictures look great. Because, you shot it high focal length and the bench/bird stand out from the background. The last two don't have a clear subject hence look flat. Still, looking good. |

18-200 is walk around lens for convenience. I use it almost 90% of the time. It is a must have. Migatha lenses anni special case lo vaadutham. Yes, Canon branded lens is way better than thirdy party lens. I am not familiar with Canon lenses. For macro photography you can use something like: http://www.amazon.com/Canon-100mm-Macro-Lens-Cameras/dp/B000 04XOM3 Nenu macro lens ni close up photos ki kooda vaaduthanu. If you stand at a distance and you can shoot beautiful close up shots with macro lens. |

@Simba, Tamron lens has slow auto-focus ani undhi. Canon branded ayithe, 18-200 better option aa? Also, sometime ago (read last year feb), I saw one picture, apparently, of a snowflake. that picture had perfect snowflak shape and details. Stun ayyaa, etlaa teeyaali ani. I tried with Kit lens and 55-250mm lens..no luck. I guess it needs a macro lens to capture such detail at such close distance. Any suggestion on a decent macro lens? |

Jalsa:
You could take same picture with kit lens (at 50mm) and 1.8 50mm prime lens. Why did prime lens perform better? Because, it lets you focus and faster focus even in low light. There are better 50mm lenses at 1.4 and at 1.2 aperture but they will get expensive. Similarly, you can have prime lenses at 24mm, 70mm, 105mm etc. They have specific use case like landscape, portrait, macro, tele. For ex, if you need to take a picture of your kid playing game from far off, a tele prime is best. Obviously, it is tough to carry all the lenses, so we compromise with a zoom lens like 10-200mm with smaller aperture. It is convenient. Focus points are camera body dependent. Bigger the camera, more the focus points. When your subject is among other objects, you have better control over the focus to make your subject standout than a flat focus picture. If you think, it is time, upgrade to next level of camera body. |

@Simba, initially I had kit lens. Tooks tons of photos with it. But then, with babies, i wanted to take portraits, so bought 1.8 50mm prime lens. I realized how much flexibility I had with that lens compared to kit lens and noticed great quality with it too. My questions is, how do you realize we need that next step in lens/camera body? Sometime ago, you posted a link about focus points and cross-point focus. That made me realize one of the benefits of a pro-sumer level camera body. |

Photography lo interest unte, oka 5K petti camera/lenses kondatam pedda kastam kaadu. People often upgrade the equipment by trading the old. They lose some money but that is part of the game. i think mark 2 better price wise.. almost 1000$ diff vundi anukunta b/w mark 2 and mark 3. mark 3 major pro's -more focus points -better iso -better shutter speed - in camera HDR veetiki 1000$ antey kattam.. unless you have lot of cash lying around.. before commenting, i have few questions.. 1) how often do you touch your camera and take pics? 2) on a scale of 1 to 10 what's your knowledge on photography? 3) which mode do you use to take pics? 4) do you take pics in RAW or Jpeg? answer cheyy, we'll move to your mark 2 or 3 topic Sasibabu: If TDP loses next elechens, i will donate 10% of my salary to TDP Skywalker: Bala chiru type kadu.....narasimha swamy avataram etti posani gadi pegulu medalo esukuntadu |

@Rebel, I love shooting in manual ONLY...occassionally, Aperture priority or shutter priority. I regret the days I shot JPEG only. Now, only RAW...although it's been 6 months since i touched my camera. |

SLR's are waste of money for 90% of us..they are for 10%(I am generous with this %, correct number may be 1% or 2%) who shoot in manual and enjoy photography...buy sony rx100/canon s110/s100 and be happy.. |

Buduguuu:
there are multiple things that decide lens quality & price. - the numbers like 18-200 are zoom range, you can consider 18-55 is a subset of 18-200 (ante second one will cover more than first one) - 10-22, 17-40 called wide angle lens (number thakkuva undevi), they cover wide-area, useful to shoot big builidngs and architecture. - aperture: small number : more light : more pricey. for ex: f/1.8 = it allows more light into camera, useful for indoors, low-light situations and will create excellent BG blurr (called bokeh) - 18-55 f/3.5 - f/5.6 is range..means 18mm daggara you will get 3.5 to 5.6 aperture, but zoom in chesthey, you won't get 3.5 at 55mm. but some lens comes with fixed aperture. for ex: 70-200 f/4. you will get f/4 at all ranges in this lens, again comes with price. - kit lenses 18-55, 55-250 are good basic lenses, they are not really sharp and OK aperture. - if you want sharp and pro quality pics, need to get some expensive lenses. - "L" is luxury series, IS = image stabilization, USM=lens motor; number of aperture blades (to decide bokeh (means background blurr) - all these things will decide the price of lens and quality. - EF-S lens will fit only for crop ceonsors like t2i, t3i, t4i etc, "EF" lens will fit both crop & full frame camers. - for vacations, probably you need a good walk around lens like 18-200, read reviews on amazon.com and also user's shared pictures there. http://www.cameralabs.com/lenses/lens_buyers_guide/Canon_EF_ lenses/Which_general-purpose_lens/Which_Canon_general-purpos e_lens.shtml - for family portraits, you need a prime lens like 50mm 1.8 will get you sharp and nice BG blurr. very cheap <$100. You can buy an expensive model also for around $300. this is fixed zoom, means you can't zoom in or zoom out. since this is portrait, you need to move according to your subject. (you can't zoom). (called prime lenses) - for indoor potos, better to have a flash. - ultra-wide angle lenses are used to shoot buildings and architecture (for ex: 10-22mm) |
